Purpose. To demonstrate keratoconus-like hydrops after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) by optical coherence tomography (OCT). Patient and Methods. A 21-year-old man received uneventful bilateral LASIK. On slit lamp examination or corneal topography there were no signs of fruste keratoconus. We report a case of corneal deposition of pigments from cosmetic contact lenses after intense pulsed-light (IPL) therapy. A 30-year-old female visited our outpatient clinic with ocular pain and epiphora in both eyes; these symptoms developed soon after she had undergone facial IPL treatment. PURPOSE: To report a case of herpetic optic neuritis associated with herpetic keratitis.
METHODS: A 65 year old woman presented with oedema in the nasal sector of his right papilla. Blood biochemistry, a haemogram, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were all normal. The patient was diagnosed as having a non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy. PURPOSE: To report a case of corneal copper deposition associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
DESIGN: Case report.
METHODS: A 65-year-old woman with a history of CLL was diagnosed with bilateral corneal opacification. Slit-lamp examination revealed dense, central yellow-brown pigmentation of Descemet's membrane in each cornea. The presence of a bilateral pigmented deposition at the level of Descemet's membrane led to a presumptive clinical diagnosis of corneal copper deposition.

METHODS: A 27-year-old woman with a history of bilateral eyebrow laser epilation complained of oval pupils, reduced visual acuity, and photophobia immediately after laser epilation of both upper-eyelid regions. PURPOSE: To evaluate a keratoprosthesis, implanted by penetrating keratoplasty, in rabbits.
METHODS: We implanted our keratoprosthesis (optics and flange portions of polymethylmethacrylate and a polyurethane skirt with micropores) into 14 eyes of 14 rabbits. In four eyes, we evaluated histologically the junction between the keratoprosthesis and host cornea. Long-term keratoprosthesis survival was evaluated in ten eyes by slit-lamp biomicroscopy.

PURPOSE: To characterize the clinical features of two Japanese families with choroideremia associated with a 402delT and a 555-556delAG mutation in the choroideremia gene (CHM).
METHODS: Four affected members and one obligate carrier from two Japanese families with choroideremia were studied. To detect mutations of the CHM gene, the products of polymerase chain reaction were directly sequenced in both directions. The ophthalmologic examination included best-corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, fundus examination, kinetic perimetry, electroretinography, and fluorescein angiography.

BACKGROUND: To report an unusual case of multifocal choroidopathy with uveitis and cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) after initially presenting with pulmonary tuberculosis (Mycobacterium kansasii).

PURPOSE AND METHODS: We observed the peripheral choroid; ciliary body, and depth of the anterior chamber by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) in 31 eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment before and after scleral buckling surgery. OBJECTIVE: The effects of tripterygium wilfordii polyglyco - sidium (TWP) on intraocular inflammatory reaction after extracapsular cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation were studied.
METHODS: 120 cases with senile cataract were divided into two groups: (1) Patients received TWP after IOL implantation; (2) patients received prednisone after IOL implantation.
