The 5-dimethylaminonapthalene-1-sulfonyl (dansyl) chromophore attached to the polar head groups of lipids has been used as a fluorescent lipoid pH indicator to evaluate the interfacial pH in lipid-water lamellar systems prepared from negatively charged lipids. The pH in the vicinity of the charged lipid bilayers is different from the pH of the bulk aqueous phase and the difference is a function of the electrolyte concentration in the aqueous phase and of the lipid packing in the bilayer. Metal complexes of Metformin hydrochloride were prepared using La(III), Ce(III), Sm(III) and Y(III). The resulting complexes were discussed and synthesized to serve as potential insulin-mimetic. Some physical properties and analytical data of the four complexes were checked. A novel procedure for the determination of deltmethrin (DM) is reported. The water-soluble CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and highly fluorescent silica molecularly imprinted nanospheres embedded CdTe QDs (CdTe-SiO2-MIPs) were prepared and characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, TEM and IR. Conjugation reaction of methazolamide with glutathione and its subsequent reactions were studied in vitro. Glutathione, cysteinylglycine, and cysteine conjugates of methazolamide were chemically synthesized. All of the three compounds showed absorbance below 330 nm, with maximal absorbance at approximately 300 nm. A series of basic carboxamides of actagardine (1), a lantibiotic possessing good antistreptococcal activity, were synthetized. 15-Hydroperoxyabietic acid (15-HPA) has been isolated from Portuguese colophony of the gum rosin type and identified as its methyl ester. The structure of the compound was elucidated using UV, IR, NMR and mass spectrometry. 15-HPA methyl ester was found to be an elicitor when tested in colophony-sensitized guinea-pigs. The sensitizing capacity was verified in the same species and 15-HPA methyl ester was considered to be a strong allergen. The circular dichroism spectra of leghemoglobin a from the root nodules of soybean have been compared with those for sperm whale myoglobin in the fat- and near-ultraviolet and the Soret and visible regions of the spectrum.
