Writing while walking: The impact of cognitive-motor multi-tasking on collision avoidance in human locomotion.

BACKGROUND: When moving in public space, individuals are challenged with having to master multiple cognitive and motor demands, either simultaneously or in short succession. Empirical evidence suggests that cognitive-motor multi-tasking during walking may impact one or both, cognitive and motor performance. These performance changes may result from unintentional task-interference effects, but also from strategic behavioral changes to cope with the multiple task demands. Strategic changes in human walking behavior have been uncovered in experimental scenarios, in which individuals avoid collidi

Drug Interactions Between Direct Oral Anticoagulants and Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs: A Clinical Risk-Benefit Analysis With Focus on Special Populations.

BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are widely used in patients with atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are frequently coprescribed in this population due to comorbid musculoskeletal or inflammatory conditions. However, the combined use of DOACs and NSAIDs is associated with an increased risk of bleeding due to additive pharmacodynamic effects and potential pharmacokinetic interactions. AREA OF UNCERTAINTY: Although the bleeding risk of this drug combination is well-recognized, evidence-based strategies to mitigate such ris

The Economic Burden of Epidermolysis Bullosa: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a phenotypically and genetically heterogeneous group of rare skin disorders characterised by mucocutaneous fragility. It is currently incurable, and management primarily focuses on wound care. While the implementation of DNA- and RNA-based therapeutic approaches represents promising avenues for EB management, their enormous costs mean comprehensive cost evaluations are needed to facilitate their effective introduction into clinical practice. This scoping review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the reported costs and time investments of EB.

The strong Black woman stereotype and identity shifting among Black women in academic and other professional spaces.

BACKGROUND: Black women, relative to their Black male and White counterparts, may be more prone to experiencing racism and sexism in academic and other professional settings due to the "double jeopardy" or stigma of being both Black and a woman. Few studies have quantitatively studied how Black women in academic and professional spaces may mitigate the oppressive circumstances experienced by engaging in a coping strategy called identity shifting. OBJECTIVES: This study used an intersectional framework to investigate the relationships between the strong Black woman (SBW) stereotype, gendered r
