BACKGROUND: Tooth extraction is one of the most common irreversible treatment options in dentistry, and it may lead to complex emotional responses such as patient regret. The ring-tailed lemurs at Beza Mahafaly Special Reserve, Madagascar, exhibit a high frequency of severe wear and antemortem tooth loss. As part of a long-term study, we collected dental data on 83 living adult ring-tailed lemurs during 2003 and 2004. Among these individuals, 192 teeth were scored as absent. The most frequently missing tooth position is M1 (24%). As M1 is the first tooth to erupt, its high frequency of absence (primarily a result of wear) is not remarkable. While dental findings of both rickets and osteopetrosis have been reported, there is no published report on the oral and dental findings of osteopetrorickets. In this paper dental findings of osteopetrorickets were presented. A two-year-old female child was referred to the pedodontics clinic for dental examinations before bone marrow transplantation. Her teeth showed severe mobility and the eruption of the teeth were delayed. The dental findings of the patient were different from that of osteopetrosis and rickets.

For some wild canids, such as the Iberian wolf, there is a lack of in-depth knowledge about dental pathology. We aimed to evaluate it, in a standardized manner, in specimens from a Portuguese museum collection. Sixty-five deceased specimens of wild Iberian wolves, 61 complete skulls and 4 mandibles, collected in Portugal between 1977 and 1995, were analyzed. INTRODUCTION: Cemental tears have been described as specific types of root surface fractures that are seen infrequently but can cause rapid collapse of the periodontal tissue. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, cases of cemental tears in autotransplanted teeth and their recovery by autotransplantation have not been reported previously. This case report presents the clinical and histopathologic features of a rare case of a cemental tear that occurred on an autotransplanted tooth. This meant a total long-term treatment course of 20 years involving two separate treatment procedures.
