Gluteal tendon repair augmented with a synthetic ligament: surgical technique and a case series.

We describe an augmented surgical repair technique for gluteus minimus and medius tears, along with a supportive case series. A consecutive series of 22 patients presenting with clinical and radiological findings consistent with hip abductor tears, who had undergone failed prior conservative treatments, were prospectively recruited. Patients underwent open bursectomy, Y-iliotibial release, debridement of the diseased tendon, decortication of the trochanteric foot-plate and reattachment augmented with a LARS ligament through a trans-osseous tunnel, together with suture anchors. All patients wer

[Syndromic approach to MR diagnosis of gouty arthritis].

The objective of the study was to improve radiodiagnosis of gouty arthritis. Thirty-six gout patients aged 39 to 58 years were examined. All the patients underwent X-ray of affected joints and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). X-ray and MRI revealed tophus formation. The latter also showed articular syndrome and extraarticular manifestations of gout. Analysis of the findings indicated that MRI could enhance the informative value of clinicoradiographic examination of gout patients.

Histopathologic evidence that sacroiliitis in ankylosing spondylitis is not merely enthesitis.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically study the histopathology of sacroiliitis in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) at 5 different stages of the disease. METHODS: Two independent observers assessed 75 microscopic features in the sacroiliac (SI) joints in 12 cases of AS (5 biopsies, 7 autopsies) and in 22 control cases (all autopsies). RESULTS: In AS, synovitis, pannus formation, myxoid marrow, superficial cartilage destruction, enthesitis, intraarticular fibrous strands, new bone formation, and bony ankylosis were significantly more frequent than in control cases, in which there was more endochondral bone

Use of angulation in the detection of tendinitis with US.

The purpose of the study was to examine the possible benefit of the longitudinal probe angle deviation in the detection of tendinitis. The influence of the ultrasound beam angle in longitudinal view on the echo intensity was studied on a bovine tendon in vitro, and in vivo on symptomatic human Achilles tendons, one of which was operated on the following day. Five other consecutive patients with clinically unilateral tendinitis in the Achilles tendon, were treated conservatively. Experimental tendinitis was induced in the bovine tendon by injecting saline water inside the tendon with subsequent

Tennis elbow--a radial tunnel syndrome?

The hypothesis that the chronic tennis-elbow syndrome is caused by an entrapment neuropathy of the radial nerve (Roles and Maudsley 1972) was put to the test prospectively in ten patients. Detailed orthopaedic, neurological and neurophysiological examinations did not reveal any involvement of the radial nerve. It is concluded that this syndrome cannot be explained by an entrapment neuropathy.

Arthrography-assisted intra-articular injection of steroids in treatment of adhesive capsulitis.

Following shoulder arthrography to establish the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis, we injected steroids via the in situ arthrogram needle. Subsequent intraarticular steroids, if needed, were given at the outpatient clinic using landmarks established at the time of arthrography. Out of 18 patients treated, function sufficient to permit resumption of usual work and self-care activities returned to 16. In 11 patients, recovery was associated with painless total shoulder movement gather than a return to glenohumeral motion. This therapy appears perferable to other forms of intraarticular injection

Hygroma of the elbow in dogs.

Two serious complications-infection and skin ulceration-have been associated with the treatment of elbow hygromas in large and giant breed dogs. Infection in 3 dogs followed the injection of a corticosteroid preparation into the cavity of the hygroma. Skin ulceration developed in 6 dogs following excision of the hygroma and wound breakdown. These skin ulcers were eventually closed by a simple reconstructive procedure. It is recommended that hygromas should not be treated by aspiration and injection of corticosteroid preparations, or by excision. A simple drainage procedure was used successfull

A Tale of Two Shoulders: Comparative Outcomes of Coracohumeral Ligament Release With and Without Percutaneous Peripheral Nerve Stimulation in Adhesive Capsulitis.

BACKGROUND: When traditional treatments for adhesive capsulitis (AC) fail, new modalities, such as percutaneous tenotomy of the coracohumeral ligament (CHL), can provide meaningful relief and improved function. However, it remains unclear which patients will benefit, and which will continue to experience pain. CASE REPORT: A 59-year-old woman experienced significant pain relief and improved function after CHL release via Tenex® (Tenex Health, Lake Forest, CA) for AC of the right shoulder. Two years later, she developed AC in the left shoulder and underwent the same Tenex procedure. However, t

Effectiveness of the Spencer technique on pain, disability and range of motion in patients with frozen shoulder: A systematic review and meta-analysis with meta-regression of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a disabling condition marked by pain and restricted mobility. The Spencer technique is a structured manual therapy protocol that has been used in clinical practice. However, evidence regarding its effectiveness remains inconsistent. This study systematically evaluated its effects on pain, disability, shoulder range of motion, and potential moderating factors. METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive search of PubMed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), and Medline-Ovid was conducted up to September 2025. Sixteen randomized controlle

Ultrasound-Guided High-Volume Pressure Hydrodilatation for Postoperative Adhesive Capsulitis of the Hip: Case Report and Literature Review.

Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a pathologic process in which excessive collagen depositions form across a joint leading to stiffness, pain, and limited joint mobility. Our case is a 48-year-old man who presented with right hip pain. Approximately 5 months after arthroscopic labral repair, he reported recurrence of the pain and limited range of motion in the hip. A therapeutic hip hydrodilatation was performed using ultrasound-guidance and an anterior approach. One month after the hydrodilatation, ported resolution of the pain and hip internal rotation was symmetric. Most patients with AC of the h

Unveiling potential therapeutic targets for diabetes-induced frozen shoulder through Mendelian randomization analysis of the human plasma proteome.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to assess the causal relationship between diabetes and frozen shoulder by investigating the target proteins associated with diabetes and frozen shoulder in the human plasma proteome through Mendelian randomization (MR) and to reveal the corresponding pathological mechanisms. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We employed the MR approach for the purposes of establishing: (1) the causal link between diabetes and frozen shoulder; (2) the plasma causal proteins associated with frozen shoulder; (3) the plasma target proteins associated with diabetes; and (4) the causal rel

High satisfaction rate and range of motion can be expected in frozen shoulder after awake manipulation with brachial plexus block.

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a disease of the glenohumeral joint that is characterized by pain and both passive and active global stiffness with a slow and insidious onset. The disease can occur spontaneously (primary AC) or it can be secondary to other comorbidities, surgery, or trauma, such as fracture or dislocation. Multiple treatment approaches have been suggested: intra-articular steroid injection, physical therapy, manipulation under total anesthesia, and arthroscopic or open surgery. Shoulder manipulation under anesthesia is usually proposed to patients that suffer from seve

Risk factors and predictive models for frozen shoulder.

This study aims to explore the risk factors associated with frozen shoulder (FS) and develop a predictive model for diagnosing FS, in order to facilitate early detection of the condition. A total of 103 patients diagnosed with FS and admitted to the Department of Joint Surgery at Suining Central Hospital between October 2021 and October 2023 were consecutively included in the study. Additionally, 309 individuals without shoulder joint diseases, matched for age and gender, who visited the department during the same time, were included as the control group. The complete recording of clinical data

Effectiveness of Prolotherapy Combined with Physical Therapy Versus Physical Therapy Only for Frozen Shoulder: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Frozen shoulder (FS) is a common conditions that causes significant morbidity. It is characterized by restriction of both active and passive shoulder motion (ROM) of the glenohumeral joint. The etiology, pathology, and most efficacious treatments are unclear. The purpose of FS treatment is complete elimination of pain and recovery of shoulder joint function. Prolotherapy injects certain compounds into articular spaces, ligaments, and/or tendons to relieve pain and disability around joint spaces and to stimulate a proliferation cascade to enhance tissue repair and strength. This case
