Laser Raman spectra of neurotoxins of Pelamis platurus (yellow-bellied sea snake) and Laticauda semifasciata (broad-banded blue sea snake) were investigated. The amide I band appeared at 1672 cm-1 for both toxins, which presents an indication of anti-parallel beta structure. A vervet monkey model of trypanosomiasis was used to study inflammatory cytokine responses in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Gamma interferon levels were transiently up-regulated in serum between days 6 and 8 of infection, followed by a sustained up-regulation of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and soluble TNF receptor 1. OBJECTIVE: We assessed cord blood for levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and p55 (sTNFR-I) and p75 (sTNFR-II) soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors.
STUDY DESIGN: Umbilical cord IL-4, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), sTNFR-I, and sTNFR-II were measured in 21 normal appropriately grown newborns delivered vaginally (normal pregnancy), and 3 abnormal pregnancies (1 preterm delivery, 1 premature rupture of membranes with chorioamnionitis, and 1 abruptio placentae with fetal and neonatal distress). Umbilical cord arterial blood pH and PO2 were also measured.

Two middle-aged patients with T cell lymphoma, both natives of Bucharest, Romania, tested positive for HTLV-I antibodies. Malignant cells had the typical phenotype and morphology of adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL). Four cases of presumed ocular histoplasmosis like retinopathy are presented. A detailed immunological assessment was carried out on the patients and a control group: lymphocyte immunophenotyping; flow cytometric analysis; HLA typing and T cell receptor variable region (TCR V region) expression were assessed. Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has revolutionized cancer treatment; however, the mechanisms determining patient response remain poorly understood. Here, we used machine learning to predict ICB response from germline and somatic biomarkers and interpreted the learned model to uncover putative mechanisms driving superior outcomes. Patients with higher infiltration of T-follicular helper cells had responses even in the presence of defects in the MHC class-I (MHC-I). Further investigation uncovered different ICB responses in tumors when responses were reliant on MHC-I versus MHC-II neoantigens.
