Secretoneurin (SN) is a novel neuropeptide expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system as well as in various endocrine tissues. SN inhibits growth of aortic pulmonary and endothelial cells and is a potent chemoattractant for endothelial cells, skin fibroblasts and monocytes. We investigated here the presence of specific high affinity binding sites for SN on a target tissue. SN was iodinated with the Bolton-Hunter (BH) reagent and purified by isocratic reversed phase chromatography. Specific binding sites for 125I-BHSN were identified on human Mono Mac 6 cells, a monocytic cell line.

Three small serum proteins (SSP-1, -2, and -3), with molecular masses of 6.5-10kDa, were isolated from Habu (Trimeresurus flavoviridis) serum, and the amino acid sequences were determined by protein and cDNA analysis. Small molecular weight fractions obtained from dialysis of crude Timothy pollen extract were shown to carry immunogenic activity in monkeys. Three fractions were sequentially purified through gel filtration with Siphadex G-10 and C-M cellulose 52. PURPOSE: We evaluated the adsorption and release of preservatives and a beta-blocking agent (metipranolol) by three different contact lens materials and two collagen shields.

One monovalent (habu-antivenom) and five polyvalent antivenoms (Crotalidae; Orient, North, Central and South Africa) were tested for their ability to neutralize the hemorrhagic activity of 12 snake venoms (Agkistrodon, Bothrops, Crotalus, Sistrurus, Trimeresurus, Bitis, Echis spp.) when mixed prior to injection into the hind leg of mice. Highly purified lactoferrin was obtained from human breast milk by sequential use of affinity chromatography and isoelectric focusing. IgG antibody to purified lactoferrin was used to develop a sensitive and reproducible enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Characteristics of the assay included linearity over a wide range of lactoferrin concentration (3.125-200 micrograms/l) and sensitivity (lower range less than 1 microgram/l).
