INTRODUCTION: Circumcision is one of the most common surgical operations throughout the world, and meatal stenosis is one its late complications. We evaluated the topical use of a lubricant jelly after circumcision in boys in order to reduce the risk of meatal stenosis.

During the years 1985 up to 1995 53 patients between 18 and 80 years of age (mean age 54.7 years) with histologically and clinically proven Zoon's balanitis were treated by circumcision. The majority of patients had symptoms for more than 12 months. The case of a 25-year-old patient who underwent circumcision and Neodymium-YAG laser treatment for giant condylomata acuminata of the penis is presented. Two cycles of interferon therapy were administered postoperatively, each comprising beta-interferons and recombinant gamma-interferons. This combination therapy provided an excellent cosmetic and functional result and the patient remains disease-free 15 months following surgery.

Vesicoureteral reflux has the potential to cause irreversible renal damage if undiagnosed and untreated. It is important to have a high index of suspicion for the existence of a urinary tract infection in infants and children with any nonspecific generalized illness. Once a UTI is documented, appropriate antibiotic therapy must be started and continued until the urinary tract has been adequately evaluated radiographically. If vesicoureteral reflux is found to exist, appropriate medical or surgical therapy must be instituted to prevent further episodes of pyelonephritis.

Glans necrosis is a rare complication after circumcision and may occur secondary to cautery . The treatment of choice for glanular necrosis has not yet been established.
