Protocol for the development of the WHO gestational weight gain charts.

INTRODUCTION: Gestational weight gain (GWG) is an important indicator of maternal nutrition to be monitored during pregnancy. However, there is no evidence-based tool that can be used to monitor it across all geographic locations and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) categories. The WHO is undertaking a project to develop GWG charts by pre-pregnancy BMI category, and to identify GWG ranges associated with the lowest risks of adverse maternal and infant outcomes. This protocol describes all the steps that will be used to accomplish the development of these GWG charts. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: T

DCS-ViT: Cross-scale dynamic fusion deep hash framework for SAR and optical oil spill data retrieval.

Rapid retrieval of marine oil spill data from SAR and optical remote sensing is vital for emergency response. Addressing modal confusion and insufficient cross-scale feature utilization, we propose DCS-ViT, a bimodal deep hashing framework specifically optimized for intra-modality retrieval within large-scale hybrid SAR and optical databases. It incorporates three core modules: (1) A dual-modal dedicated ViT encoder that separates and extracts features from SAR (focusing on noise suppression) and optical (focusing on detail enhancement) images; (2) a cross-scale dynamic fusion module that adap

Mutual learning for joint disease detection and severity prediction reveals multimodal pathogenesis for neurodegenerative disorders.

MOTIVATION: Neurodegenerative disorders influence millions of people worldwide, and uncovering the pathogenesis is of urgent need. Many efforts have been made to detect or predict neurodegenerative disorders, while exploring the pathogenesis has been ignored from a systemic perspective. RESULTS: To handle this issue, we propose a novel and powerful method, referred to as Pathogenesis-aware Mutual-Assistance Classification and Regression Optimization (Pa-MACRO). First, Pa-MACRO incorporates a mutual-assistance bidirectional mapping technique with a joint-embedding fine-grained interpretability

Diabetic retinopathy screening using artificial intelligence: a comprehensive performance comparison on datasets from diverse populations and imaging modalities.

Objective.Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of preventable blindness in adults and poses significant challenges in low- and middle-income regions due to limited access to skilled clinicians and diagnostic facilities. Automated screening solutions using artificial intelligence (AI) have emerged as an efficient alternative, achieving high diagnostic accuracy. However, these solutions are often developed using data from specific populations obtained using relatively expensive high-end devices. This study addresses the potential scope limitations by evaluating the AI-based screening t

The Austrian MS database and the Austrian MS cohort : A national effort towards data harmonization and prospective data collection.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is treated with various disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) with differing efficacy and risks, yet the disease course varies markedly within and between individuals. Defining optimal treatment strategies through randomized trials is impractical because of the required sample sizes, costs and long follow-up. Large multicenter registries and prospective observational cohorts are therefore essential but demand harmonized, standardized, user-friendly data capture with rigorous quality control and data protection. OBJECTIVE: This project aims to establish standar

Unravelling drug-induced hepatic steatosis: Clinical sub-phenotypes, outcome prediction, and identification of high-concern drugs and hazardous chemical attributes.

BACKGROUND: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a rare but serious adverse drug reaction with a wide range of clinical presentations. While three major DILI phenotypes-hepatocellular, cholestatic, and mixed-are well established, other injury patterns such as steatosis-associated DILI (DIS) are harder to identify and remain underexplored. Existing limited evidence suggests that steatosis is frequent among DILI patients, yet this subtype and its causative drugs have not been systematically characterized in large patient cohorts. GOALS: This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by collecting in
