PRKAR1B mutation associated with a new neurodegenerative disorder with unique pathology.

Pathological accumulation of intermediate filaments can be observed in neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson's disease, and is also characteristic of neuronal intermediate filament inclusion disease. Intermediate filaments type IV include three neurofilament proteins (light, medium and heavy molecular weight neurofilament subunits) and α-internexin. The phosphorylation of intermediate filament proteins contributes to axonal growth, and is regulated by protein kinase A. Here we describe a family with a novel late-onset neurodegenerative

Genome sequencing data of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli INF191/17/A isolates of nosocomial infection.

The infection with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli is associated with higher mortality, longer length of hospital-stay and increased costs compared to infection with antibiotic-susceptible E. coli. Here, the draft genome of ESBL-producing E. coli circulating at local hospital is reported. The strain was detected as containing the genes of antibiotic resistance TEM, CTX-M-1, and CTX-M-9. The 5,136,548-bp genome, with a GC content of 50.59%, comprised 4987 protein-coding genes, four ribosomal RNA, and 66 transfer RNA. The ResFinder was successfully predicted fourteen

The Mycoplasma conjunctivae genome sequencing, annotation and analysis.

BACKGROUND: The mollicute Mycoplasma conjunctivae is the etiological agent leading to infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) in domestic sheep and wild caprinae. Although this pathogen is relatively benign for domestic animals treated by antibiotics, it can lead wild animals to blindness and death. This is a major cause of death in the protected species in the Alps (e.g., Capra ibex, Rupicapra rupicapra). METHODS: The genome was sequenced using a combined technique of GS-FLX (454) and Sanger sequencing, and annotated by an automatic pipeline that we designed using several tools interconnected

The effect of high-protein vs. low-protein diets on CRP, IL-6, TNF-α, and liver enzymes in adult participants: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: High-protein diets (HPDs) are widely recommended for weight management and preservation of lean mass, but their impact on systemic inflammation and liver health remains controversial. Elevated liver enzymes and inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) are strongly associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cardiometabolic risk. Evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) has been inconsistent, highlighting the need for a quantitative synthesis. Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis of RCTs c

FertilityOnline: A Straightforward Pipeline for Functional Gene Annotation and Disease Mutation Discovery.

Exploring the genetic basis of human infertility is currently under intensive investigation. However, only a handful of genes have been validated in animal models as disease-causing genes in infertile men. Thus, to better understand the genetic basis of human spermatogenesis and bridge the knowledge gap between humans and other animal species, we construct the FertilityOnline, a database integrating the literature-curated functional genes during spermatogenesis into an existing spermatogenic database, SpermatogenesisOnline 1.0. Additional features, including the functional annotation and genet

AS03-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine enhances immune response by modulating NR4A1, SDC1, ID3 genes, and reducing cortisol.

The AS03-adjuvanted H5N1 influenza vaccine induces significantly higher immune responses compared to the non-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine. However, the immunological mechanisms underlying this enhancement remain unclear. We aimed to identify the key genes and pathways involved in the immune response to the AS03-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine compared to the non-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine. The expression profiles of GSE102012 and GSE112293 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database to identify differentially expressed genes between AS03-adjuvanted and non-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine groups. dfrA trimethoprim resistance genes found in Gram-negative bacteria: compilation and unambiguous numbering.

To track the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, accurate identification of individual genes is essential. Acquired trimethoprim resistance genes encoding trimethoprim-insensitive homologues of the sensitive dihydrofolate reductases encoded by the folA genes of bacteria are increasingly found in genome sequences. However, naming and numbering in publicly available records (journal publications or entries in the GenBank non-redundant DNA database) has not always been unambiguous. In addition, the nomenclature has evolved over time. Here, the changes in nomenclature and the most commonly enco

Identification of soybean Bradyrhizobium strains used in commercial inoculants in Brazil by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) with the soybean crop probably represents the major sustainable technology worldwide, saving billions of dollars in N fertilizers and decreasing water pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases. Accordingly, the identification of strains occupying nodules under field conditions represents a critical step in studies that are aimed at guaranteeing increased BNF contribution. Current methods of identification are mostly based on serology, or on DNA profiles. However, the production of antibodies is restricted to few laboratories, and to obtain DNA profiles o
