Previous studies have shown that the proximal striated muscle oesophagus is less compliant and more sensitive than the distal smooth muscle oesophagus. Congenital midureteral stricture is an uncommon cause of prenatal hydronephrosis, and it is generally associated with proximal hydroureteronephrosis . We report a unique case of a congenital severe midureteral dilatation associated with mild proximal ureteral dilatation and normal distal ureteral diameter. The dilated midureter was excised, and an open end-to-end ureteroureterostomy was performed. Follow-up 6 months after surgical correction revealed marked improvement in the left-sided hydronephrosis and complete resolution of the hydroureter.

The treatment of keratoconus can be implemented by the use of spectacle lenses, contact lenses of various kinds, and surgery. In this article, we deal with the procedures of contact lens fitting in patients diagnosed with keratoconus. The different types of specific contact lenses and the methodology of fitting these contact lenses for keratoconus are described. To select a contact lens for the individual patient depends upon the severity of keratoconus and the amount of corneal ectasia. Almost all reported cases of intraductal papillary-mucinous tumors of the pancreas (IPMTs) originate from Wirsung's duct (WD), the main pancreatic duct, or their branches. PURPOSE: To report a rare case of late bilateral ectasia developing after LASIK for low myopia without preoperative risk factors.
METHODS: A 21-year-old man underwent bilateral uneventful LASIK for low myopia of -2.75 diopters in both eyes. Preoperative corneal pachymetry was 531 microm in the right eye and 526 microm in the left eye. The total ablation depth was 46.8 microm in the right eye and 42.2 microm in the left eye. Preoperative corneal topography was normal and did not reveal forme fruste keratoconus.

A 15-year-old girl was admitted for repair of partially unroofed coronary sinus syndrome. A preoperative echocardiographic study disclosed the dilated coronary sinus and a draining blood flow into the right atrium from both the left atrium and the end of the coronary sinus. At surgery, the distal portion of the coronary sinus roof was found to be absent. The defect was repaired through the coronary sinus orifice with a patch. No electrophysiological conduction abnormalities developed and follow-up echocardiography showed neither residual shunts nor coronary sinus blood flow disturbances.

PURPOSE: Ectasia after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a rare but serious complication. Prevention includes proper patient selection with detection of those at particular risk.
