Apart from meticulous wound closure certain amount of fibrin and fibroblastic activity are necessary to prevent epithelial ingrowth. Prostaglandin inhibitors and steroid may enhance such danger. The most frequent reason for glaucoma were peripheral anterior synechiae. Open angle glaucoma with stratified epithelium lining the trabeculum was less frequent. Glaucoma can be caused by goblet cells produced mucus blocking the trabeculum. Desquamated epithelial cells, pupillary block caused by epithelial invasion of anterior hyaloid and intense inflammatory reaction can also exceptionally induce seco

BACKGROUND: Although glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness worldwide, yet there are no large databases where risk factors, current management options and outcomes may be evaluated. With this concept in mind, Dallas Glaucoma Registry was established to focus on an ethnically mixed North Texas population.
METHODS: This is a retrospective, chart review of 2,484 patients (4,839 eyes) with glaucoma from three clinics. Data collected included: age, race, gender, intraocular pressure, visual acuity, central corneal thickness, cup-to-disk ratio, extent of visual field damage, glaucoma diagnoses, m

A pair of eyes with congenital glaucoma, one treated by goniotomy, was examined by light and electron microscopy. Examination of the drainage angles afforded the opportunity to compare anatomic changes in the treated eye with the surgically unaltered tissue of the fellow eye. The congenital glaucoma appeared to arise from compression of the trabecular meshwork and closure of the intertrabecular and transtrabecular spaces by a discontinuous "membrane" consisting of ectopic trabecular pillars that bridged the drainage angle from the iris root to the normally positioned uveal meshwork. IMPORTANCE: Glaucoma is the most common cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Many patients with glaucoma are asymptomatic early in the disease course. Primary care clinicians should know which patients to refer to an eye care professional for a complete eye examination to check for signs of glaucoma and to determine what systemic conditions or medications can increase a patient's risk of glaucoma. Open-angle and narrow-angle forms of glaucoma are reviewed, including a description of the pathophysiology, risk factors, screening, disease monitoring, and treatment options.

BACKGROUND: Microspherophakia is a rare developmental lens anomaly with increased anteroposterior and reduced equatorial diameter. It presents with refractive myopia, shallow anterior chamber, and angle closure glaucoma. It is associated with subluxated or dislocated lens, progressive myopia, defective accommodation, and glaucoma. Glaucoma is the most common vision-threatening complication and mostly requires surgical management that includes trabeculectomy, lensectomy, and drainage implant. A staged or combined procedure can be performed. The purpose of this video is to highlight the advantag

Ocular vasospasm in response to local and/or systemic stimuli may contribute to ischemia of the optic nerve. The Hettinger hand vibration test was applied to patients with and without glaucoma to identify subgroups with a high systemic vasospastic tendency. A total of 580 subjects were tested (113 controls, 86 glaucoma suspects, 270 with primary open-angle glaucoma, 71 with secondary open-angle glaucoma, 30 with normal-tension glaucoma, and 10 with angle-closure glaucoma). The frequency distribution curve of Hettinger scores (HS) was bimodal, suggesting two distinct groups. Within each diagnos

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness and is characterized by optic nerve atrophy and progressive visual field loss. Risk prediction models are crucial for early screening and personalized treatment by identifying high-risk individuals for timely intervention. Recent advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence have improved prediction accuracy by integrating complex multivariable data. Models incorporating clinical factors, such as intraocular pressure, optic nerve head morphology, retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and family history, as well as imaging and geno

Glaucoma is a heterogeneous group of diseases characterised by cupping of the optic nerve head and visual-field damage. It is the most frequent cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Progression usually stops if the intraocular pressure is lowered by 30-50% from baseline. Its worldwide age-standardised prevalence in the population aged 40 years or older is about 3·5%. Chronic forms of glaucoma are painless and symptomatic visual-field defects occur late. Early detection by ophthalmological examination is mandatory. Risk factors for primary open-angle glaucoma-the most common form of glauco

Glaucoma is presumed to be a complex progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by genetic and environmental factors, and it is also one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. Glaucoma is divided into two major forms: primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Familial linkage studies for POAG have been performed and identified causative POAG disease genes (e.g., MYOC, OPTN, and WDR36). Recent genome-wide association studies revealed a large number of susceptibility gene variants associated with both POAG (e.g., CDKN2BAS, CAV1/CAV2, and

The differential diagnoses for phacolytic glaucoma are acute angle closure glaucoma, open angle glaucoma with uveitis, neovascular glaucoma, and glaucoma secondary to trauma. We report an unusual case where the dislocated cataractous lens firmly adherent to the corneal endothelium evoked a cellular reaction similar to phacolytic glaucoma but clinically appeared like a deep corneal abscess. The 73-year-old lady presented with severe photophobia, pain, and redness in the left eye for two months despite being on antibiotics and antifungals. Anterior chamber wash revealed a cataractous lens buried

Recently an association was observed between alleles in genes of the unfolded protein response pathway and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). The goal of the current study is to investigate the role of these two genes, protein disulphide isomerase A member 5 (PDIA5) and baculoviral IAP repeat containing 6 (BIRC6), in different forms of glaucoma. 278 patients with POAG, 132 patients with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and 135 patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PEXG) were genotyped for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs11720822 in PDIA5 and 471 POAG, 184 PACG and 218 PEXG p

Glaucoma is a multifactorial degenerative optic neuropathy that can progress at variable rates and afflict all age groups. It is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. The disease is commonly divided into 2 major subtypes, open angle and angle closure. Diagnosis of glaucoma is made by a combination of identifying characteristic changes of the optic nerve, functional testing such as visual fields, and structural imaging of the optic nerve. Management is aimed at reducing intraocular pressure (IOP). Patients with known risk factors should be referred to an ophthalmologist for complete
