Skin-prick tests (SPTs) are a standard way to test for sensitizations to allergens, but to date, techniques that allow for high-quality measurements of the resulting weals for research purposes are lacking. In this study, we assessed a new three-dimensional (3D) imaging technology for its accuracy and consistency. Anaphylaxis as an adverse systemic reaction to thiamine (vitamin B1) has been described in the literature since 1938. Although its precise mechanism is still uncertain, the reaction appears to involve immediate type hypersensitivity and to be exclusively related to parenteral administration. The following case report is a reminder of this reaction to thiamine which may be administered by general practitioners, emergency physicians and internists.

This study examined the relationships among louse density, pruritus and dermal response to insect antigens in sheep infested with Bovicola ovis. Polypay and Columbia ewes were allocated to two groups, infested and naive, and louse densities and pruritus were monitored for 15 months. Forty children with atopic dermatitis were evaluated for history, clinical features and allergologic-immunologic parameters. A comprehensive allergological examinations of 92 patients with lesions of the nose and paranasal cavities and 20 essentially healthy subjects was carried out, using skin tests and neutrophil tests. Half of the patients showed sensitization to Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes allergens, which occurred more frequently in patients with chronic purulent sinusitis. It is recommended to expose such patients to allergological examinations and to prescribe, if indicated, desensitization therapy.

Two clinical syndromes of non-allergic rhinitis -- NARES and vasomotor rhinitis -- were studied. In recent years there has been a moderate statistical increase in both conditions which are still not easily diagnosed or treated, given the fact that they are often confused with allergic rhinitis. In this context a brief review of aetiopathogenic and physiopathological factors is followed by the suggestion of certain elements that may be assessed in order to obtain a more correct classification and diagnosis. Finally the drugs providing a more effective and long-lasting cure are listed.

In 223 patients admitted to hospital with cystic fibrosis mycobacteria were found in the sputa of seven. All of these cases were identified over a six year period after the introduction of routine examination and culture of sputum for acid fast bacilli in patients with cystic fibrosis. The organisms isolated were Mycobacterium tuberculosis in three patients, M chelonei in one, M fortuitum in one, and unidentified mycobacteria in two.
