Benchmarking public large language model responses to patient-facing varicose veins questions: informational quality, verifiability indicators, and readability.

OBJECTIVES: To benchmark the informational quality, verifiability indicators, and readability of publicly accessible large language model (LLM) responses to standardized, patient-facing varicose veins (VV) questions. METHODS: Twenty single-intent VV questions were derived from PubMed-indexed VV and chronic venous disease guidelines and consensus statements (search date: February 10, 2026). The question set was designed as a decision-critical benchmark across the care pathway rather than a prevalence-weighted sample of real-world patient queries. Five publicly accessible LLMs (ChatGPT 5.2, Dee

Predicting emergency mortality risk in traumatic brain injury: comparative analysis of machine learning and large language model GPT-5.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly important in predicting outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Traditional machine learning (ML) models, such as support vector machines (SVMs), have shown high accuracy, whereas the potential of large language models (LLMs) in structured clinical prediction remains underexplored. PURPOSE: This study compared the predictive performance of ML and LLM approaches (ChatGPT-5 with Thinking response mode) using the same TBI dataset and evaluated the impact of prompting strategies and threshold calibration on model reliability and c…

Temporal linguistic shifts in oncology randomized controlled trials following large language model availability: A corpus analysis of 21,392 publications.

BACKGROUND: Public availability of large language models (LLMs) from late 2022 has raised concerns about AI-assisted writing in scientific publishing. Oncology randomized controlled trials (RCTs) underpin cancer treatment guidelines and regulatory decisions worldwide, yet whether linguistic changes have followed the emergence of LLMs has not been examined at scale. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective corpus linguistics analysis of 21,392 oncology RCTs indexed in PubMed (2019-2026), stratified into pre-LLM (2019-2022; n = 11,308) and post-LLM (2023-2026; n = 10,084) eras. Large language model-supported companion robots and late-life loneliness: A critical reappraisal of relational AI in cross-cultural care.

The growing use of large language model-supported companion robots in later-life care warrants closer scrutiny beyond conversational performance alone. While the original cross-cultural study offers valuable qualitative insights from the United Kingdom and Japan, its findings also expose unresolved questions regarding cross-cultural generalisability, sustained relational value, and the ethical implications of embedding generative AI in companionship technologies. Meaningful support for loneliness in older adults cannot be inferred from dialogue fluency alone, because loneliness is a multidimen

Evaluation of a retrieval-augmented generation system using a Japanese Institutional Nuclear Medicine Manual and large language model-automated scoring.

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) enable domain-specific question answering using external knowledge. However, addressing information that is not included in training data remains a challenge, particularly in nuclear medicine, where examination protocols are frequently updated and vary across institutions. In this study, we developed a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system using 40 internal manuals from a single Japanese hospital, each corresponding to a different examination in nuclear medicine. These institution-specific documents were segmented and indexed using a hybrid…

How Often Do Large Language Models Agree with Each Other-And with the Truth? A Consensus- and Complexity-Stratified Analysis of Data Extraction for Neuroimaging AI.

Background: The reliable integration of large language models (LLMs) into neuroimaging data extraction workflows remains unresolved. Prior benchmarking shows that exact-match accuracy underestimates LLM extraction performance, but whether inter-model consensus and variable complexity can guide automation remains unclear. We evaluated whether inter-model consensus can serve as a confidence signal for human-artificial intelligence (AI) extraction and can guide complexity-stratified workflow triage. Methods: Four frontier LLMs were queried via OpenRouter with an identical zero-shot structured pro…
