Ecological reshaping of pediatric respiratory pathogen profiles after COVID-19-related non-pharmaceutical interventions were lifted: a 5-year interrupted time-series study.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19-related non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) disrupted the circulation of many respiratory pathogens. After these measures were lifted, pediatric respiratory pathogen activity may have changed in pathogen-specific ways. However, laboratory-based evidence using continuous multi-year data, interrupted time-series analysis, and contextual factors such as meteorology, air quality, and school calendars remains limited. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective laboratory study of pediatric and neonatal inpatients aged 0-14 years with clinically diagnosed lower res

Pilot Study: Endoscopic Anatomical Study of the Lower Premasseter Space and Buccal Space for Sub-superficial Musculo-aponeurotic System Face Lift: Observations Based on Live Dissections.

BACKGROUND: Sub-superficial musculo-aponeurotic system dissections of the lower premasseteric space (LPMS) and buccal space (BS) performed under direct visualization are challenging because of the close relationship between neurovascular bundles and the fascioligamentous system, making these structures prone to injury. This pilot study aims to document the endoscopic anatomy of these spaces through intraoperative visualization, enabling clearer identification and description of key structures. METHODS: Five representative cases were selected from a series of 80 sub-superficial musculo-aponeur

Preliminary Study with the Use of a Titanium Mesh as Space Maker and Implant Primary Stabilization for One-Stage Sinus Lift in Cases with Less Than 1.5 mm Residual Bone.

(1) Background: In the lateral area of the maxilla, the alveolar bone can lose significant volume due to maxillary sinus pneumatization following teeth extractions. This preliminary study evaluated the effectiveness of a novel technique for one-stage sinus lifting and simultaneous implant placement in cases with less than 1.5 mm residual alveolar bone. The subsequent survival rate at 1-year post-occlusal loading was assessed. (2) Methods: 15 patients were selected, the main inclusion criteria were the partially edentulous area in the posterior maxilla with alveolar bone height of less than 1.5…

Effects of game-based chin tuck against resistance exercise vs head-lift exercise in patients with dysphagia after stroke: An assessor-blind, randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of game-based chin-tuck against resistance exercise and head-lift exercise on swallowing function and compliance of patients with dysphagia after stroke. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 37 patients with stroke were randomly assigned to 2 groups. The experimental group performed game-based chin tuck against resistance exercise, whereas the control group performed traditional head-lift exercise. The videofluoroscopic dysphagia scale (VDS) and penetration-aspiration scale (PAS) were used to evaluate swallowing function. In addition, the functional oral intake s

Continuous intra-sinus bone regeneration after nongrafted sinus lift with a PLLA mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Sinus lift is a bone augmentation procedure that improves the alveolar crest height in an atrophic posterior maxilla. However, the regenerated bone volume can vary and generally has a tendency to decrease after sinus operation. This article describes nongrafted maxillary sinus lift using a bioresorbable unsintered hydroxyapatite combined with poly L-lactide (HA/PLLA) mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla, after which continuous bone gain was observed around the implant apex during a postoperative follow-up period of 3 years. CASE PRESENTAT

Efficient bone formation in a swine socket lift model using Escherichia coli-derived recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 adsorbed in β-tricalcium phosphate.

Several preclinical studies have shown that Escherichia coli-derived bone morphogenetic protein-2 (E-BMP-2) is as effective as mammalian cell-derived bone morphogenetic protein-2 (C-BMP-2) in the treatment of bone defects. However, further investigation of the effectiveness and determination of the optimal dosage of E-BMP-2 in large animals are still necessary before its full application in humans. This study investigated the efficiency of different concentrations of E-BMP-2 adsorbed in β-TCP for bone augmentation and osseointegration of immediate dental implants in a swine socket lift model.

Further studies of psychophysically determined maximum acceptable weights and forces.

The effects of lifting boxes without handles, pulling long distances, carrying different size boxes, combining three handling tasks, and lifting with extended horizontal reach were studied using a psychophysical methodology. Six male industrial workers performed 42 variations of lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, and carrying tasks. Lifting boxes without handles produced consistent decreases (median, 16%) in maximum acceptable weights when compared with lifting boxes with handles. Lifting with extended horizontal reach (approximately 48 cm) produced consistent decreases (median, 48%) in maxi…

The moderated-mediation role of risk perception and intolerance of uncertainty in the association between residual symptoms and psychological distress: a cross-sectional study after COVID-19 policy lifted in China.

BACKGROUND: A considerable number of individuals infected with COVID-19 experience residual symptoms after the acute phase. However, the correlation between residual symptoms and psychological distress and underlying mechanisms are scarcely studied. We aim to explore the association between residual symptoms of COVID-19 and psychological distress, specifically depression, anxiety, and fear of COVID-19, and examine the role of risk perception and intolerance of uncertainty in the association. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted by online questionnaire-based approach in mid-January

Autologous leucocyte and platelet rich in fibrin (L-PRF) - is it a competitive solution for bone augmentation in maxillary sinus lift? A 6-month radiological comparison between xenografts and L-PRF.

UNLABELLED: Maxillary lateral sinus floor elevation, or external sinus lift, is a widespread surgical intervention in the dental field. Insertion of implants in the posterior region of the maxilla often requires reconstruction of the remaining native bone that has insufficient volume. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Much of the research published involves using artificial products, like xenografts and resorbable collagen membranes, after a prior Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) investigation. Nowadays, more accessible access, less financial costs, a biological approach, and faster healing are object

Remotely delivered cognitive behavioural and personalised exercise interventions for fatigue severity and impact in inflammatory rheumatic diseases (LIFT): a multicentre, randomised, controlled, open-label, parallel-group trial.

BACKGROUND: Chronic fatigue is a poorly managed problem in people with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Cognitive behavioural approaches (CBA) and personalised exercise programmes (PEP) can be effective, but they are not often implemented because their effectivenesses across the different inflammatory rheumatic diseases are unknown and regular face-to-face sessions are often undesirable, especially during a pandemic. We hypothesised that remotely delivered CBA and PEP would effectively alleviate fatigue severity and life impact across inflammatory rheumatic diseases. METHODS: LIFT is a multic

Internal Fixation of a Lateral Inverted Osteochondral Fracture of the Talus (LIFT) Lesion Using an Innovative Surgical Approach: Inverting the Capsulo-Lateral Fibulotalocalcaneal Ligament (LFTCL)-Fibular Periosteum Complex.

Osteotomy of the distal fibula or anterolateral corner of the tibia is usually required to fix a displaced osteochondral fracture of the talus that is located central to posterior area of the lateral talar dome. However, osteotomy is an invasive procedure and is associated with complications, including nonunion, persistent pain, and hardware-related problems. Lateral inverted osteochondral fracture of the talus (LIFT) lesion is an extremely rare type of displaced osteochondral lesion of the talus. We describe a case in which a LIFT lesion was fixed using an innovative surgical approach, invert

Overlap Anastomosis for Digestive Reconstruction during Laparoscopic Distal Gastrectomy with Intensive Regional Lymph Node Dissection: Physiological Impact of Preserving the Mesenteric Autonomic Nerves in the Lifted Jejunal Limb.

Laparoscopic gastrectomy is a treatment for gastric cancer, and isoperistaltic side-to-side reconstruction is called "overlap anastomosis." The physiological advantages of preserving the autonomic nerves in the jejunal limb for digestive reconstruction are well known. Here, we focused on overlap anastomosis with autonomic nerve-preserved mesojejunum of the lifted jejunal limb for laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intentional lymph node dissection. Our surgical techniques and technical pitfalls were described in detail. The jejunum was partially sacrificed to preserve the autonomic nerves in

Le Fort I osteotomy, bilateral sinus lift, and inlay bone-grafting for reconstruction in the severely atrophic maxilla: a new vision of the sandwich technique, using bone scrapers and piezosurgery.

Severe atrophy of the edentulous maxilla and progressive pneumatisation of the maxillary sinus can compromise the insertion of dental implants. In this context, ideal implant positioning is limited by inadequate height, width, and quality of the bone. Le Fort I osteotomy and interpositional bone graft is an excellent treatment concept for the dental rehabilitation of patients with atrophied maxilla and reversed intermaxillary relationship. In this report, we indicate the transcendent aspect of elevation and preservation of maxillary sinus and nasal mucosa, modifying the sandwich technique by t

Program LIFT: protocol for a pilot feasibility factorial randomised controlled trial of digital single-session interventions to address self-harm and suicidal ideation in Australian community-based adolescents.

INTRODUCTION: Self-injurious thoughts and behaviours (SITBs) represent a critical public and mental health challenge. Adolescents are disproportionately at risk for engaging in SITBs. Intervening early and addressing pathogenic and proximal risk/vulnerability factors is of critical importance for this vulnerable population. Digital Single-Session Interventions (D-SSIs) offer a promising solution to unmet need for accessible, scalable and engaging care. This pilot study aims to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of the interventions and clinical trial protocol for Programme LIFT (Little
