Postoperative Pain and Periapical Healing after Endodontic Treatment Using Pachymic Acid-Modified Epoxy Resin Root Canal Sealer: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated the effect of adding pachymic acid (PAC) to an epoxy resin root canal sealer (AH Plus) on the postoperative pain and periapical (PA) healing in teeth with necrotic pulp and apical periodontitis. METHODS: Fifty single-rooted teeth with necrotic pulp and apical periodontitis were randomly assigned to two groups according to the sealer (n = 25), AH Plus (AHP) and AHP modified with PAC (AHP/PAC). Endodontic treatment was conducted in 2 visits, with calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament. Pain scores were recorded using visual analog scale at baseline, 24

Impact of Marginal Misfit in Implant-Supported Fixed Dental Prostheses on Peri-Implant Bone Levels: A Retrospective Quantitative Analysis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the impact of the marginal fit of implant-supported prostheses (ISP) on peri-implant bone levels. Additionally, the study aimed to determine a clinically relevant threshold for the radiographic vertical misfit gap at the ISP, when present, and to identify potential risk factors associated with changes in bone levels. METHODS: This study involved subjects who received ISPs for tooth replacement therapy. Standardized intraoral periapical radiographs were taken 10 years after loading to assess the radiographic distance between the implant shoulder and the most coronal poi

Dental Pathology of the Hoary Marmot (Marmota caligata), Groundhog (Marmota monax) and Alaska Marmot (Marmota broweri).

Museum specimens (maxillae and mandibles) of the three marmot species occurring in Alaska (Marmota caligata [n = 108 specimens], Marmota monax [n = 30] and Marmota broweri [n = 24]) were examined macroscopically according to predefined criteria. There were 71 specimens (43.8%) from female animals, 69 (42.6%) from male animals and 22 (13.6%) from animals of unknown sex. The ages of animals ranged from neonatal to adult, with 121 young adults (74.4%) and 41 adults (25.3%) included, and 168 excluded from study due to neonatal/juvenile age or incompleteness of specimens (missing part of the dentit

Tooth Autotransplantation of A Mandibular Third Molar Followed by Delayed Root Canal Treatment to Manage External Inflammatory Resorption: A Case Report.

Tooth autotransplantation (TA) is indicated in cases of structurally compromised teeth with poor prognosis when a donor tooth is available. This case report describes the TA of a mandibular right third molar (48) into the position of the mandibular right second molar (47) in a 32-year-old male patient. Clinically, extensive coronal destruction and a sinus tract were observed in tooth 47, rendering retreatment unfavorable. The tooth was diagnosed as previously treated, with a chronic apical abscess. Therefore, tooth 48 was autotransplanted into the 47 position. Four months later, apical externa

Anterior Palatal Radicular Cyst: A Case Report.

The most prevalent kind of odontogenic cysts is radicular cysts, which usually develop from the epithelial remnants in the periodontal ligament as a result of inflammation that follows pulp necrosis. We report a case of a 49-year-old male patient who complained of painless swelling in the maxillary anterior region, which turned out to be a radicular cyst. Upon clinical examination, a soft, nontender swelling that fluctuated was found. A periapical lesion was found upon radiographic assessment. A radicular cyst was tentatively diagnosed based on clinical and radiological features. The treatment

Impact of Home and Professional Care on Laser-Assisted Management of Peri-implant Complications: A Case Report.

This case report emphasizes how home and professional care can impact clinical outcomes following nonsurgical mechanical therapy with the adjunctive use of a diode laser to treat failing implants. Localized severe peri-implant disease was diagnosed in a patient who was susceptible to periodontal disease, not compliant, and did not accept the surgical approach. A cause-related, diode laser-assisted, nonsurgical treatment was therefore implemented, according to a dedicated protocol, in four closely scheduled appointments. The patient's oral hygiene skills became extremely effective. She then adh

[Asymptomatic third molars; To remove or not to remove?].

Three adult patients, ages 28 (female), 36 (male) and 53 (male), respectively, were referred by their dentists to an orofacial surgeon concerning problems with their third molars. With the woman, teeth 38 and 48 were removed. After the removal of tooth 38, a permanent periodontal attachment loss of the adjoining second molar occurred. With the second patient, retention of tooth 48 caused serious damage to the adjoining second molar, resulting in the loss of the tooth. At the time of removal, there was a question of increased risk of inflammatory complications and nerve damage. With the third p

Crown-root fracture with pulp exposure: a case report with 16-year follow-up.

A 12-year-old boy presented for dental care 35 days after he fell from his bicycle. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed a longitudinal crown-root fracture with pulp exposure in the maxillary left central incisor. The radiograph also suggested necrosis of the maxillary right central incisor. Urgent treatment of the left central incisor involved gingivectomy followed by autogenous bonding of the tooth fragment with self-curing composite resin. Immediately after bonding, coronal access was prepared, chemical and mechanical preparation was completed, and a calcium hydroxide intracanal

Nasolacrimal obstruction caused by root abscess of the upper canine in a cat.

A 10-year-old, castrated male domestic short hair cat was presented to the Small Animal Clinic at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine with a presenting complaint of chronic, ocular discharge from the left eye. Ocular examination confirmed epiphora and mucopurulent discharge but there were no apparent reasons for the ocular discharge, and nasolacrimal obstruction was suspected. The cat had swelling of the left side of the face, severe periodontal disease and a fractured upper left canine tooth with pulpal exposure. Dacryocystorhinography revealed narrowing of the nasolacrimal duct above

Total impaction of deciduous maxillary molars: two case reports.

AIM: The purpose of this report is to present two cases of totally impacted maxillary deciduous molars, considered a rarity in dental practice. BACKGROUND: Primary tooth impaction is quite rare during the development of primary dentition. Various factors contribute to the impaction of a deciduous tooth, including anklyosis, congenitally missing permanent teeth, defects in the periodontal membrane, trauma, injury of the periodontal ligament, precocious eruption of the first permanent molar, defective eruptive force, or a combination of these factors. REPORTS: Case #1: An 18-year-old male pres

Evaluation of the efficiency of antibiotics in treating adult patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: When a person feels dental pain, it brings great discomfort and damages the quality of life. Symptomatic apical periodontitis is identified as the most frequent cause that triggers dental pain. Symptomatic apical periodontitis arises from an infection or inflammation in the pulpless root canal structure. According to clinical guidelines, the primary form of therapy for such teeth entails removing the inflammation or infection source through local surgical procedures. Presently, systemic antibiotics are recommended only for cases where there is clear indication of an infectious spre
