METHODS: Case records of six children with unusual forms of endogenous endophthalmitis, all of whom were referred to the authors because retinoblastoma was a strong diagnostic consideration, were reviewed. Two unusual cases of metastatic head and neck carcinoma to the exit site of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube are reported. These patients presented with squamous cell carcinomas of the supraglottic larynx and oropharynx. An anonymous survey of elective surgery patients was performed to assess prevalence of antibody to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in a large urban hospital. Of 4087 patients evaluated, 18 (0.4%) were found to be infected with HIV as confirmed by a positive Western blot antibody test. In recent years there has been growing conceptual interest in narcissism, coupled with the rapid development of several paper and pencil measures. Clearly, construct validation should be performed prior to the adoption of any measure. This study reports on the construct validation of four scales that purport to measure narcissism. A conceptual definition of narcissism is provided, and a number of empirical analyses are performed, including examination of internal consistency reliabilities, intercorrelations among the four narcissism scales, and correlations with related and unrelated measures.
