A novel robotic exoskeleton for fingers rehabilitation is developed, which is driven by linear motors through Bowden cables. For each finger, in addition to three links acting as phalanxes, two more links acting as knuckles are also implemented. Links are connected through passive joints, by which translational and rotary movements can be realized simultaneously. Either flexion or extension motion is accomplished by one cable of adequate stiffness. This exoskeleton possesses good adaptability to finger length of different subjects and length variations during movement. The exoskeleton's kinema

The Flex Robotic System is a device intended for robot-assisted visualization and surgical site access to the head and neck. The aim of this review is to summarize the current knowledge about the Flex Robotic System in head and neck transoral robotic surgery (TORS). The primary search was performed using the term "Flex Robot" across several databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Scopus). Patients were treated for both benign and malignant diseases. The oropharynx was the most frequent site of disease, followed by the supraglottic larynx, hypopharynx, glottic larynx, oral cavity, and salivary gla

Several genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of multinodular goitre. A transcervical surgical resection is recommended for larger goitres, though a minority of cases may require sternotomy or thoracotomy. We present a case of a posterior substernal goitre that was resected with combined transcervical and robotically assisted thoracic approaches. A woman in her 30s with an enlarging thyroid goitre elected to proceed with surgical resection. CT imaging demonstrated significant extension of the goitre into the posterior mediastinum and a staged approach was decided on.

BACKGROUND: This study was undertaken to analyze our outcomes after robotic fundoplication for GERD in patients with failed antireflux procedures, with type IV (i.e., giant) hiatal hernias, or after extensive intra-abdominal surgery with mesh, and to compare our results to outcomes predicted by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Surgical Risk Calculator and to national outcomes reported by NSQIP.
METHODS: 100 patients undergoing robotic fundoplication for the aforementioned factors were prospectively followed.
RESULTS: 100 patients, aged 67

INTRODUCTION: The treatment of achalasia has undergone a continuous evolution with the advancement of technology. Since the beginning of the new millennium, the employment of robotics has led to technical facilitation with the execution of the myotomy and consequently to an improvement of the outcomes and a decrease in perioperative morbidity.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We provide a detailed description of the surgical procedure and the perioperative management together with a literature search of Electronic PubMed/Medline database and Cochrane Library. English written studies on robotic assisted …

'We present the development of a soft robotic-inspired device for lower limb compression therapy with application in the treatment of lymphedema. This device integrates the control capabilities of pneumatic devices with the wearability and low cost of compression garments. The design consists of a three-layered soft robotic sleeve that ensures safe skin contact, controls compression, and secures the device to the patient limb. The expandable component is made of interconnected pockets of various heights, which passively create a graduated compression profile along the lower limb. The system is

PURPOSE:: Enucleation of a large prostate is the best surgical choice for patients refractory to clinical treatment (1,2). Since the first robot-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) was described (3,4), some technical modifications (–7) and different approaches to reach the adenoma have been proposed (8,9). The aim of this video is to demonstrate three different techniques of RASP.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:: The first procedure begins with a transversal incision over the bladder neck, the second is a transvesical approach and the last one is a Retzius-sparing RASP. All techniques were performed

The field of robotic surgery continues to evolve and the advent of the single-port (SP) platform is another step toward the future. The SP platform is a new technology that has promising implications for urologic surgery. Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared this platform in 2018, multiple urologic procedures have been described, with radical prostatectomy being the most common. This article aims to describe and illustrate the step-by-step technique of SP radical prostatectomy. We have described our technique from the patient positioning and trocar placement until the anastomos

INTRODUCTION: This study describes the experience with robot-assisted transanal minimally invasive surgery (rTAMIS) at a single institution. TAMIS has become a popular minimally invasive technique for local excision of well-selected rectal lesions. rTAMIS has been proposed as another option as it improves the ergonomics of conventional laparoscopic techniques.
METHODS: Retrospective case series of patients with rectal lesions who underwent rTAMIS. Patient demographics, final pathology, surgical and admission details, and clinical outcomes were recorded. Successful procedures were defined as h

Children with physical disabilities often have limited performance in daily activities, hindering their physical development, social development and mental health. Therefore, rehabilitation is essential to mitigate the adverse effects of the different causes of physical disabilities and improve independence and quality of life. In the last decade, robotic rehabilitation has shown the potential to augment traditional physical rehabilitation. However, to date, most robotic rehabilitation devices are designed for adult patients who differ in their needs compared to paediatric patients, limiting t

Pancreaticoduodenectomy, so-called "Whipple operation," is a time-consuming and technically demanding complex operation. Traditionally, this procedure has been performed most usually by open approach, which results in a large and painful wound. With the introduction of laparoscopic and robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has emerged as a worldwide trend to improve wound cosmesis and to minimize wound pain. Although MIS for pancreaticoduodenectomy has also been attempted at some centers, the role of MIS, either robotic or laparoscopic approach, has not been well-established for co

BACKGROUND: Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) is performed for resectable periampullary lesions with comparable outcomes to the open approach.1 Surgical therapy for borderline-resectable (BR) pancreatic tumors is technically challenging and poses a significant risk of bleeding and positive margins.2 As experience with RPD grows at high-volume centers, case selection can be carefully expanded to include complex vascular resections.3 We demonstrate a RPD performed for BR pancreatic adenocarcinoma with portal vein (PV) involvement and presence of anomalous hepatic arterial anatomy.

Above-knee amputees suffer the lack of sensory information, even while using most advanced prostheses. Restoring intraneural sensory feedback results in functional and cognitive benefits. It is unknown how this artificial feedback, restored through a neuro-robotic leg, influences users' sensorimotor strategies and its implications for future wearable robotics. To unveil these mechanisms, we measured gait markers of a sensorized neuroprosthesis in two leg amputees during motor tasks of different difficulty. Novel sensorimotor strategies were intuitively promoted, allowing for a higher walking s…

Oral administration is the most convenient and commonly used approach for drug delivery, while it is still a challenge to overcome the complicated gastrointestinal barriers and realize efficient macromolecular drug absorption. Here, novel magneto-responsive microneedle robots are presented for efficient oral delivery of versatile macromolecules. These microneedle robots with three components of the magnetic substrate, the separable connection, and tips are generated by a Lego-brick-stacking-inspired multistage 3D fabrication strategy. With the assistance of commercial enteric capsule encapsula

BACKGROUND: Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) has become an integral part of epilepsy surgery, often used in the localization of the epileptogenic zone. It is an essential modality not only in the evaluation of nonlesional but also lesional drug refractory epilepsy, especially in the presence of anatomo-electro-clinical discordance.
OBJECTIVE: To describe our technique and the operative nuances involved in the performance of robotic SEEG placement.
METHODS: A 28-year lady with seizure onset at the age of 15 years presented with two types of seizures: one was associated with an aura of ches
