Ocular surface changes in patients who have undergone head and neck radiation therapy.

PURPOSE: Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a familiar sequelae of radiation therapy (RT) for head and neck cancers (HNC). Ocular surface changes such as DES occur due to injury to the conjunctival epithelium, goblet cells, corneal surface, lacrimal glands, and meibomian glands. This study aimed at the evaluation and early detection of changes in ocular surface parameters in patients receiving RT for extraocular HNC. METHODS: Forty-two eyes of 21 patients undergoing HNC RT were evaluated. Radiation technique and dose of radiation to the lens and eye were recorded. Subjects were evaluated for meibomian

Bilateral disciform keratitis of presumed adenoviral etiology.

Adenoviral conjunctivitis may lead to subepithelial corneal infiltrates as a late complication. Herein, we aim to present a 19-year-old healthy female, who developed bilateral disciform keratitis three weeks after suffering adenoviral conjunctivitis. She presented with widespread subepithelial corneal infiltrates in addition to central corneal edema with white distinct border resembling immune stromal ring, as well as Descemet's folds and keratic precipitates in the central area. Following topical corticosteroid and ganciclovir for 10 days, her condition improved. After 1 month, she had anothe

[Cross-linking and neurodermitis: prolonged re-epithelisation with severe corneal vascularisation after cross-linking in a patient with neurodermitis and keratoconus].

This case report describes a patient with keratoconus and neurodermitis suffering from a significantly prolonged postoperative time interval to re-epithelisation after corneal cross-linking. The development of corneal calcifications and vascularisations additionally inhibited proper re-epithelisation. Therefore the patient received four subsequent subconjunctival injections of Bevacizumab and an additional keratectomy to remove the calcifications. This therapeutic scheme led to a significant reduction of corneal vascularisation and finally a full rehabilitation of the epithelium.

Advanced bilateral glaucoma decades after first-generation Fyodorov 'collar-button' anterior-posterior phakic intraocular lens implantation: a case report and clinical management considerations.

BACKGROUND: Phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs), used to correct high refractive errors, have since been associated with long-term complications including glaucoma and cataract formation. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in these patients can be challenging to manage, often requiring surgical intervention. Micropulse trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) offers a less invasive option for IOP control in refractory cases. This report describes a patient with advanced glaucomatous optic neuropathy decades after undergoing pIOL implantation and the successful use of MP-TSCPC. CASE PRESE

[Tuberculous granuloma of the iris: a case report].

A 29-year-old man presented to Department of Ophthalmology, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University with a 14-day history of redness and decreased vision in the right eye. Uncorrected visual acuity in the right eye was 0.02 (not improvable with correction). Slit-lamp examination revealed mutton-fat keratic precipitates on the corneal endothelium, anterior chamber inflammation, and two iris masses. Systemic evaluation suggested cervical lymph node tuberculosis, and empirical anti-tuberculosis therapy was initiated. After one month of treatment, the original iris lesion regressed, but new nodu

Bilateral Vortex Keratopathy in a Patient Receiving Long-Term Ribociclib Therapy.

We report a case of bilateral vortex keratopathy associated with long-term ribociclib therapy in a 67-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer. The corneal deposits were identified during routine ophthalmic examination after 4 years of continuous treatment. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed bilateral whorl-like epithelial deposits with a subtle morphological appearance compared with classic amiodarone-associated cornea verticillata. The patient had no history of tamoxifen, amiodarone, or chloroquine use, and there were no clinical features suggestive of Fabry disease. The combined severity
