INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: A significant proportion of patients develop voiding dysfunction after midurethral tape (MUT) insertion, which reduces patient satisfaction. The study's purpose was to identify predictive factors of voiding dysfunction after a retropubic MUT procedure.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 100 patients who underwent only a retropubic MUT procedure between January 2010 and December 2011. Early voiding dysfunction was defined when patients required a Foley catheter within 48 h. Data including demographic information, urogenital symptoms, previous surgery, preop

INTRODUCTION: We reviewed the role of urodynamics (UDS) in the management of women with incontinence following mid-urethral sling removal (MUSR).
METHODS: Following IRB approval, women from a longitudinal database who had persistent or recurrent urinary incontinence (UI) after MUSR, desired further therapy, and subsequently underwent UDS were reviewed. Women with neurogenic bladder, obstructive symptoms without UI, urethra-vaginal fistula, anterior compartment prolapse >Stage 2, or those who had concomitant autologous sling surgery at the time of MUSR were excluded. Interval time between MUSR

INTRODUCTION: While urinary retention is a known complication of AdVance male sling (AMS) placement for post-prostatectomy incontinence (PPI), there is minimal data regarding ultimate continence outcomes for patients who experience this complication. The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of continence after AMS placement in patients who had postoperative urinary retention as compared with those patients who did not.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of patients who underwent AMS placement for PPI between 2008 and 2011 with postoperative void trial (TOV)

About 15% of the women and 10% of the men past the age of 65 years suffer from urinary incontinence. In most cases, accurate history taking can help differentiate between urge incontinence, stress incontinence and overflow incontinence, and is essential in choosing the appropriate treatment. Initial diagnostic testing can be conducted by the general practitioner, especially tests to exclude urinary tract infections or to rule out an overactive bladder. Patient education on changes to fluid intake and voiding habits as well as advice on suitable incontinence products are important first steps i

BACKGROUND: We recently completed a randomized clinical trial of two minimally invasive surgical procedures for stress urinary incontinence, the retropubic tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) versus the trans-obturator tape (TOT) procedure. At one year postoperatively, we were concerned to find that a significant number of women had tape that was palpable when a vaginal examination was undertaken. Because the risk factors for adverse outcomes of tape surgery are not clearly understood, we are unable to say whether palpable tapes will lead to vaginal erosions or whether they merge into vaginal tiss

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of polypropylene mesh for uterine preservation during pelvic reconstruction in patients with severe uterine prolapse.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 67 women with severe uterine prolapse (pelvic organ prolapse quantification stage III/IV) who received transvaginal mesh reconstruction with uterine preservation. Surgery combined with a transobturator membrane sling procedure (tension-free vaginal tape-transobturator route) was performed in 54 patients. Among them, 18 had urodynamic stress incontinence, 30 had occult s

A review of the current medical literature for the use of polypropylene (PP) mesh for vaginally performed prolapse repair, including only those studies reporting prospective, randomized, controlled trials compared with native tissue repairs was undertaken. Five full manuscript publications and 4 studies still in abstract form were all consistent with PP mesh producing better anatomical results for cystocele repair, but when functional results in terms of the patient's quality of life are considered, no significant difference is found between PP mesh and native tissue repairs. PP mesh use resul

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Development of a model that can predict in which group of women pre-operative urodynamics can be safely omitted.
METHODS: Three hundred and eighty-one uncomplicated women who underwent pre-operative urodynamics were evaluated. A multivariate logistic regression model was developed based on medical history and physical examination predicting a high probability group of women with detrusor overactivity or a low (<20 cm H2O) mean urethral closure pressure and, therefore, are likely to benefit from urodynamics.
RESULTS: Women are likely to benefit from pre-operative

Cystocele repair can lead to de novo stress urinary incontinence (SUI) or exacerbate pre-existing SUI. This study was designed to determine the effect of cystocele repair by transobturator mesh on SUI. In a retrospective observational study, we saw 93 patients after a transobturator mesh procedure. Of those, 57 women had not undergone a concomitant anti-incontinence procedure. We analyzed their clinical data and ultrasound datasets. At a median follow-up of 9 months, 21 of 24 preoperatively stress incontinent women reported cure/improvement, one patient reported worsened SUI. Seven of 33 preop

IMPORTANCE: Despite increasing focus on the benefits of expedited recovery after minimally invasive surgery (MIS), urogynecology lacks a validated, simple question to assess recovery.
OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to explore how patients evaluate postoperative recovery following MIS for apical pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and/or stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and to confirm understanding of a recovery patient-reported outcome (PRO).
STUDY DESIGN: This study enrolled women who underwent MIS for apical POP or an isolated procedure for SUI (midurethral sling placement or uret

INTRODUCTION: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is common, affecting one-third of women [1,2]. The impact of SUI surgery on overactive bladder symptoms (OAB) is poorly understood. This study aims to evaluate the effect of SUI surgeries on bladder and voiding function.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study of 100 women who underwent SUI surgery at a UK tertiary centre was conducted. Pre-operative and post-operative bladder function was assessed using validated pelvic floor questionnaires, Electronic Personal Assessment Questionnaire(ePAQ). Five domains were analysed: pain and sensation,

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Class action against Ethicon (J&J), manufacturer of transvaginal mesh devices, including mid-urethral slings (MUS), was brought to the Federal Court of Australia in 2016 by Shine Lawyers. As a result, subpoenas to all hospitals and networks were received, which overrode patient privacy concerns. This medical record search allowed a complete audit and communication with patients to offer clinical review. This enabled a review of complications, readmission and re-operation for women who underwent a MUS for stress urinary incontinence.
METHODS: A cohort study of wome
