PURPOSE: The study aimed to determine the efficacy of multilevel surgery (hyoid myotomy and suspension with uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for the treatment of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and to clarify whether our surgical protocol could be as effective as CPAP.

BACKGROUND: Total lower lip defect is rare and its reconstruction difficult. The challenges are both aesthetic and functional. Suspension of the lower lip is essential for restoring oral competence. We report an original and simple technique of suspension by double nasolabial rigging.
METHOD: Two upper base orbitonasolabial flaps, extended over several centimeters below the lip commissures are raised. The epidermis is completely removed. Then, the flaps are tunneled under the skin and fixed to the reconstructed lower lip in order to provide it with effective suspension to the maxillary.

OBJECTIVE: To present and assess a new, simple, conservative modification of hyoidthyroidpexy using 2 sutures between hyoid periosteum and thyroid lamina.

Astronauts in space experience a unique environment that causes the concomitant loss of bone and muscle. However, the interaction between these tissues and how osteopenia and sarcopenia affect each other is unclear. We explored this relationship by exaggerating unloading-induced muscle loss using a unilateral casting model in conjunction with hindlimb suspension (HLS). Five-month-old, male C57Bl/6J mice subjected to HLS for 2 weeks displayed a significant decrease in gastrocnemius and quadriceps weight (-9-10%), with a two-fold greater decrease in muscle mass observed in the HLS + casted limb.
