Amniotic fluid-derived stem cells (AFSCs) represent a promising yet underutilized resource for research and clinical applications. While AFSCs share phenotypic and functional characteristics with stem cells derived from somatic tissues such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, placenta, and umbilical cord, their unique developmental origin grants them several superior qualities. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by fibrosis, immune dysregulation, and vascular dysfunction, yet its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. This study compares two widely used animal models of SSc-the bleomycin-induced fibrosis model and the collagen-V-induced autoimmune model-to evaluate their ability to replicate key disease features. PURPOSE: To evaluate the actual incidence of both microlithiasis and acute cholecystitis during treatment with intravenous ceftriaxone in a new rabbit model.
METHODS: New Zealand rabbits were treated with intravenous ceftriaxone or saline for 21 days.
