Color flow Doppler ultrasound is a critical tool in the assessment of the scrotum. Ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality and can rapidly differentiate between surgical and nonsurgical conditions, allowing for appropriate and prompt patient management. We review the role of color flow Doppler in the evaluation of acute scrotal pain, highlighting some of the most commonly seen pathologies such as epididymo-orchitis and testicular torsion.

Uterine arteriovenous malformations are rare but may represent a life-threatening cause of vaginal bleeding. The typical patient affected is a multiparous woman during her thirties. The origin can be congenital or acquired, with the latter being more common after uterine surgery and presenting mainly as arteriovenous fistulous connections into the myometrium supplied by uterine arteries. A 46-year-old woman presented with a 2-week history of a painless golf ball sized lump in her vagina. Despite transvaginal ultrasound scan, biopsy and MRI, it was only after surgery had been performed that it became clear what the nature of the mass actually was.Immunohistochemistry revealed the lump to be an aggressive angiomyxoma. Follow-up MRI showed residual (or recurrence of) angiomyxoma which was successfully treated with monthly injections of Prostap (leuprorelin acetate), a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist. Further MRI showed complete resolution of the lesion.

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is one of the most common cyanotic congenital heart diseases. With surgical repair and the advances in postoperative care, contemporary mortality has dramatically improved and an increasing number of patients survive into adulthood, leading to a growing number of adult TOF. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMT) are rare benign lesions that may often be mistaken for malignancies due to their imaging resemblance. There are a limited number of case reports in the literature on the location at the level of the gallbladder. We present a case of IMT of the gallbladder that emphasizes the importance of conventional ultrasound as the primary method of detection, as well as the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound and strain elastography in describing the lesion, thus contributing to the differential diagnosis.
