It is time to heed Solomon Benatar's call to disrupt the global research ethics paradigm.

The history of research in low- and middle-income countries is rife with practices that have extracted the time, energy, data, biological samples and, in many cases, the health and lives of those who participated, often justified by beliefs about their racial, cultural and civilisational inferiority. As global health research expanded in the late 20th century, this history raised substantial ethical concerns, including exploitation, double standards and the broader social, economic and political contexts in which international research occurs. Although research has contributed to reductions in

Menstrual blood as a research biospecimen: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Although systemic blood testing is usually used for research, it is invasive and may limit accessibility and participant compliance. Menstrual blood is usually discarded but contains whole blood and diverse biomarkers with relevance to reproductive and systemic health. Evidence shows an overlap between menstrual and systemic blood, with additional unique biomarkers that may enhance research. Despite this, menstrual blood remains under-represented in research and no scoping or systematic reviews are currently available on this topic. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This review will include

Defining the role of pragmatic clinical trials in cancer clinical research: outcomes of a collaborative workshop hosted by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer.

Explanatory clinical trials, which focus on evaluating therapeutic efficacy under ideal circumstances, are crucial for learning about new therapeutic interventions; however, they also exhibit shortcomings. These include non-representative populations and frequent use of intermediate endpoints, leading to uncertainty about the applicability of study results to patients in the real-world. Moreover, these trials often do not address all clinically meaningful questions, highlighting the need for optimisation within the oncology research framework. Refinements can be partly achieved by incorporatin

Design and implementation of the participatory German network for translational dementia care research (TaNDem): A mixed-method study on the perspectives of healthcare providers and dementia researchers in dementia care research.

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is a lack of interaction between research and healthcare practice. As a result, research findings reach healthcare practice only late, and topics relevant to practice are often not known in research. Involving people living with dementia (PlwD), their relatives and healthcare providers in dementia care research can accelerate this process. For inclusion, firm and reliable structures are needed, which are to be established with the help of the Translational Network for Dementia Care Research in Germany. However, there is only limited knowledge about the priorities,

Pulmonary arterial hypertension: challenges in translational research and a vision for change.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a vascular remodeling disease with a relentless course toward heart failure and early death. Existing PAH therapies, all of which were developed originally to treat systemic vascular diseases, cannot reverse the disease or markedly improve survival and are expensive. Although there has been a recent increase in the number of potential new therapies emerging from animal studies, less than 3% of the active PAH clinical trials are examining such therapies. There are many potential explanations for the translational gap in this complex multifactorial diseas
