This study investigated telemedicine reliability and usability in evaluating facial dystonia grading and treatment complications. Eighty-two telemedicine recordings from 43 adults with blepharospasm (12, 28%) and hemifacial spasm (31, 72%) were obtained (mean age 64.5 ± 9.3 years, 32 females [64%]). Botulinum toxin, a powerful pre-synaptic neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum, interferes with the release of acetylcholine from nerve terminals. Since September 1985, we have been using this toxin to treat altogether 62 patients with benign facial spasms. Most of the patients had been on drugs or psychotherapy, 2 had received alcohol injections, 2 had undergone surgery of the orbicular branch, and 2 electrocoagulation of the facial nerve. A large number of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience nocturnal problems that impair their sleep quality. Among them, motor disorders such as tremor, rigidity, akinesia, akathisia, periodic leg movements, painful dystonia, dyskinesias, restless legs syndrome, and rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder are common. This article reviews the clinical characteristics of some nocturnal motor problems that often induce sleep disruption in PD patients.
