INTRODUCTION: Lupus nephritis requires antinuclear antibodies as classification criteria. There is a group of patients with nephrotic syndrome and conclusive histopathological findings for lupus nephritis, without classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or extrarenal manifestations. These groups of patients have been described as "lupus-like" nephritis or "renal-limited lupus nephritis".

HLA-DR, C4, and Bf typing was performed in 99 patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). DR1 was found with higher frequency in patients with polyarticular JRA than in controls (P less than 0.05). DR3 was more common in patients with fever and/or rash than in those without these manifestations (P less than 0.05). A significant negative association between JRA and C4A6 (P less than 0.05), C4BQ0 (P less than 0.0005), and BfF1 (P less than 0.05) was found. It is possible that a disequilibrium between DR and C4/Bf genes plays a role in the pathogenesis of JRA.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its relationship with diseas … -2K (r = -0.543). Ordinal logistic regression analysis showed that lower AGR (β = -1.319) and lower complement C4 (β = -1.073) were independent risk factors for SLE disease activity.
CONCLUSIONS: AGR was decreased in patients with SLE and may be utilized as a useful inflammatory biomarker for monitoring SLE disease activity.
