A thermophilic bacterial origin and subsequent constraints by redox, light and salinity on the evolution of the microbial mercuric reductase.

Mercuric reductase (MerA) is central to the mercury (Hg) resistance (mer) system, catalyzing the reduction of ionic Hg to volatile Hg(0). A total of 213 merA homologues were identified in sequence databases, the majority of which belonged to microbial lineages that occupy oxic environments. merA was absent among phototrophs and in lineages that inhabit anoxic environments. Phylogenetic reconstructions of MerA indicate that (i) merA originated in a thermophilic bacterium following the divergence of the Archaea and Bacteria with a subsequent acquisition in Archaea via horizontal gene transfer (H

Tryptophan metabolism-related gene CYP1B1 serves as a shared biomarker for both Parkinson's disease and insomnia.

Parkinson's disease (PD) and insomnia are prevalent neurological disorders, with emerging evidence implicating tryptophan (TRP) metabolism in their pathogenesis. However, the precise mechanisms by which TRP metabolism contributes to these conditions remain insufficiently elucidated. This study explores shared tryptophan metabolism-related genes (TMRGs) and molecular mechanisms underlying PD and insomnia, aiming to provide insights into their shared pathogenesis. We analyzed datasets for PD (GSE100054) and insomnia (GSE208668) obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. TMRGs were

The association between atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is closely related to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which promotes and exacerbates the development of AS. However, it is uncertain how the precise underlying mechanism occurs. Here, we attempted to further explore the association underlying atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease through integrated bioinformatics analysis. Microarray data for atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify the genes related

Spatial and Temporal Expression of High-Mobility-Group Nucleosome-Binding (HMGN) Genes in Brain Areas Associated with Cognition in Individuals with Down Syndrome.

DNA methylation and histone posttranslational modifications are epigenetics processes that contribute to neurophenotype of Down Syndrome (DS). Previous reports present strong evidence that nonhistone high-mobility-group N proteins (HMGN) are epigenetic regulators. They play important functions in various process to maintain homeostasis in the brain. We aimed to analyze the differential expression of five human HMGN genes in some brain structures and age ranks from DS postmortem brain samples. Methodology: We performed a computational analysis of the expression of human HMGN from the data of a

Clinical Presentation, Genetics, and Laboratory Testing with Integrated Genetic Analysis of Molecular Mechanisms in Prader-Willi and Angelman Syndromes: A Review.

Prader-Willi (PWS) and Angelman (AS) syndromes were the first examples in humans with errors in genomic imprinting, usually from de novo 15q11-q13 deletions of different parent origin (paternal in PWS and maternal in AS). Dozens of genes and transcripts are found in the 15q11-q13 region, and may play a role in PWS, specifically paternally expressed SNURF-SNRPN and MAGEL2 genes, while AS is due to the maternally expressed UBE3A gene. These three causative genes, including their encoding proteins, were targeted. This review article summarizes and illustrates the current understanding and cause o
