Digital Addiction and Sleep.

In 2020, the World Health Organization formally recognized addiction to digital technology (connected devices) as a worldwide problem, where excessive online activity and internet use lead to inability to manage time, energy, and attention during daytime and produce disturbed sleep patterns or insomnia during nighttime. Recent studies have shown that the problem has increased in magnitude worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. The extent to which dysfunctional sleep is a consequence of altered motivation, memory function, mood, diet, and other lifestyle variables or results from excess of blu…

A systematic review and narrative analysis of digital speech biomarkers in Motor Neuron Disease.

Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a progressive and largely fatal neurodegeneritve disorder with a lifetime risk of approximately 1 in 300. At diagnosis, up to 25% of people with MND (pwMND) exhibit bulbar dysfunction. Currently, pwMND are assessed using clinical examination and diagnostic tools including the ALS Functional Rating Scale Revised (ALS-FRS(R)), a clinician-administered questionnaire with a single item on speech intelligibility. Here we report on the use of digital technologies to assess speech features as a marker of disease diagnosis and progression in pwMND. Google Scholar, PubMed,

The 'good mobile': a mobile launcher for children to facilitate human interactions.

Children today grow up in a hybrid physical and digital environment, engaging with mobile devices from an early age, which poses a risk of negatively impacting their development. This usage often replaces social interactions and physical activities, potentially deteriorating relationships, socio-cognitive skills, and mental health. Banning device use is unrealistic, but the way children use mobiles can be altered through responsible technology. In the present study we (1) explored parental expectations regarding children's mobile applications, (2) directlyincorporated these expectations into t

From Alliance to Nexus: Rethinking Digital Therapeutic Relationships.

In traditional human psychotherapy, the therapeutic alliance (TA) is regarded as a fundamental factor that describes the client-therapist relationship, mainly due to strong evidence demonstrating its impact on treatment outcomes regardless of theoretical orientation. More recently, advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies have led to the emergence of the concept of digital TA, used to characterize the relationship between clients and AI-based therapeutic systems. This approach replicates human dynamics but overlooks key differences between human therapists and digital ag

A digital mask to safeguard patient privacy.

The storage of facial images in medical records poses privacy risks due to the sensitive nature of the personal biometric information that can be extracted from such images. To minimize these risks, we developed a new technology, called the digital mask (DM), which is based on three-dimensional reconstruction and deep-learning algorithms to irreversibly erase identifiable features, while retaining disease-relevant features needed for diagnosis. In a prospective clinical study to evaluate the technology for diagnosis of ocular conditions, we found very high diagnostic consistency between the us

A study on the impact of ESG rating on green technology innovation in enterprises: An empirical study based on informal environmental governance.

Improving corporate green technology innovation is a key link in achieving green transformation and development. Compared with formal environmental regulations that force companies to carry out green innovation passively, ESG ratings under soft environmental regulations can better stimulate the internal motivation of companies. This study uses the ESG ratings of listed companies published for the first time by SynTao Green Finance as an exogenous impact. Taking China's A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2022 as a research sample, the multi-period differences-in-differences model was used to
