A 50-year-old woman was the victim of a motor vehicle accident. An aortogram obtained for suspicion of an aortic injury was interpreted as an intimal disruption at the level of the aortic isthmus. At thoracotomy the patient was found to have only a ductus diverticulum. A brief discussion of the angiographic appearance of a ductus diverticulum and its significance in the setting of trauma is presented.

A 3-year-old boy with a radiographic finding of an isolated invaginated Meckel's diverticulum is presented. The abnormality simulates a polypoid filling defect in the distal small bowel on barium examination. This particular manifestation of Meckel's diverticulum is very rare and has been reported only once previously. This article re-emphasizes the need to think about this possibility when a polypoid filling defect is seen in the distal small bowel. At the time laparotomy was performed, the abnormality had progressed into a triple intussusception, a rare surgical finding.

We report a case of a Meckel's diverticulum with pancreatic heterotopia that had intussuscepted into the distal ileum, masquerading as a small bowel tumor and presenting with acute lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Laparoscopically assisted resection of the diverticulum was successfully accomplished.

A rare case of an ectopic ureter terminating in a urethral diverticulum is presented. While numerous cases of extravesical ectopic ureters draining directly into the urethra or uterovaginal canal have been reported, the termination of a ureter as a diverticular sac is extremely unusual. Moreover, only rarely has a urethral diverticulum been documented to arise congenitally due to any cause. The history and management of this new case are detailed, and the general subjects of ectopic ureter and urethral diverticulum are discussed with particular reference to etiology and continence.

An intraluminal duodenal diverticulum (IDD) and a partial pancreas divisum were diagnosed in a 22-year-old man who exhibited recurrent attacks of acute pancreatitis. Resection of the diverticulum resulted in a complete disappearance of symptoms. The possible etiological relationship between IDD and recurrent acute pancreatitis is discussed.

Neonates with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) may present with respiratory distress. Intubation and mechanical ventilation may force air from the tracheobronchial tree, through a distal fistula and into the gastrointestinal tract. We present a newborn with TEF who became moribund during mechanical ventilation. High ventilator pressures transmitted via the TEF caused over distention of the gastrointestinal tract and perforation of a Meckel's diverticulum.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. It is usually asymptomatic, but it can cause rectal bleeding and bowel obstruction in both children and adults. Different investigative methods are used to diagnose Meckel's diverticulum. A case of urethral diverticulum with calculus in a 53-year-old woman is reported. She was admitted to Isahaya General Hospital complaining of a localized swelling in the external genitalia. We found a urethral diverticular calculi by urethrography. Urethral diverticulectomy was carried out without any complications. The removed stones were in 2 pieces and they were composed of calcium phosphate and ammonium urate.

Pharyngoesophageal (Zenker's) diverticulum is a relatively common acquired condition that may cause dysphagia and regurgitation of food. Squamous carcinoma may develop in such a diverticulum, but this complication is exceedingly rare and may not be suspected preoperatively. This report describes a case in which the diagnosis of squamous carcinoma was made after regurgitation of malignant tissue from a radiographically proven pharyngoesophageal diverticulum. The patient was treated by simple diverticulectomy and postoperative radiation therapy.

The relationship between peripapillary duodenal diverticulum and benign biliary tract disease was studied. Peripapillary duodenal diverticulum could be classified pathophysiologically into three types. Type I represents the disease not directly affecting the biliary tract. Type II shows the elevation of bile duct pressure directly caused by intraduodenal pressure loading. Type III includes patients in whom the diverticulum is small and is prone to cause papillitis or mechanical stimulation. A 48-year-old man presented with symptoms of acute cholecystitis. Abdominal roentgenograms suggested emphysematous cholecystitis. Axial volvulus of a Meckel's diverticulum was discovered at surgery. We discuss this unusual complication of Meckel's diverticula as well as the roentgenographic differential diagnosis of air in the gallbladder.

Nine cases of female urethral diverticuli were successfully operated in the years between 1978 and 1980. The anatomic pathophysiology of female urethral diverticuli is discussed according to the currently accepted international and Hungarian terminology. A new modified surgical method is described and the possibilities opened by its adequate application are outlined. No postoperative urethrovaginal fistula has ever been observed.
