PURPOSE: To evaluate the mid-term outcome following CT-guided percutaneous resection of osteoid osteoma.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 38 patients who had been treated by CT-guided percutaneous resection were included. The mean follow-up of 3.7 years. Early and mid-term outcome and histology were analyzed.
RESULTS: Histological samples were adequate in 92% of cases and a diagnosis of osteoid osteoma was confirmed in 73.7% of cases. In 6 cases, the lesion was not an osteoid osteoma: 2 mucoid cysts, 1 benign fibrous dysplasia, 1 fibromucoid lesion, 1 focal osteochondritis, 1 osteomyelitis. Cure was a

A retrospective survey of 152 patients undergoing emergency abdominal surgery was carried out to examine factors which may have affected the outcome of surgery. The operative diagnosis and procedure carried out, pre-operative health of the patient, duration of surgery and grade of surgeon were studied to assess whether these factors had any bearing on the eventual outcome. A large variety of surgical emergencies were treated but none of the factors under study were related to the eventual morbidity or mortality recorded. PURPOSE: To present the long-term results in superior caval stenting for symptomatic obstruction.
METHODS: Forty-nine stents were placed in 30 patients: 16 (53%) with malignant lesions, five (17%) with benign lesions and nine (30%) hemodialysis patients. The functional outcome of acetabular reconstruction in 21 patients with severe acetabular deficiency was examined. The surgical indications were pain, immobility, and loss of indepedence. Surgical reconstruction included curettage, placement of an acetabular roof ring with screws crossing the defect, cementation of the defect, and cemented hip arthroplasty. Limb salvage after loss of bone and soft tissue may require many operations to obtain soft-tissue cover and bony continuity. We describe a fibula-flexor hallucis longus osteomuscular flap which can provide both soft tissue and bone in a single stage. Many patients with malignant gastroduodenal obstruction have an unresectable primary lesion and distant metastases, which may prompt palliative management to allow the patient to eat and to improve the quality of life. Intraluminal metallic stent implantation (MSI) under fluoroscopic guidance has been reported to be an effective option for symptomatic relief in these patients, with a good safety record.
