Scopulariopsis brevicaulis onychomycosis with local cutaneous invasion was diagnosed in an acute leukemia patient and unsuccessfully treated with high-dose micafungin, based on antifungal susceptibility testing. This case should alert clinicians to the possible severe evolution of onychomycosis in neutropenic patients and suggests that surgery should be preferred in such a situation.

The use of methylene blue and toluidine blue in the photodynamic treatment of onychomycosis at an ambulatory clinic in São Paulo, Brazil is reported. Local application and illumination of infected nails produced a response in 53 of 62 patients, without any pain or burning associated with the therapy.

We present 4 clinical cases of skin diseases, which are the most prevalent amongst the majority of socially and economically vulnerable patients. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are of paramount importance, in order to avoid their spread in close- knit communities where these patients often live.

The study showed the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy based on methylene blue to treat severe distal and lateral subungual toenail onychomycosis. 22 patients were divided into two groups: group A consisting of 11 patients with severe toenail onychomycosis and group B consisting of 11 patients with mild-to-moderate toenail onychomycosis. Pachyonychia congenita (PC) is a rare genodermatosis which may be associated with painful, focal hyperkeratosis on the soles.
