Sinonasal Lobular Capillary Hemangioma of the Nasal Cavity: A Rare Giant Vascular Tumor Managed With Preoperative Embolization and Medial Maxillectomy.

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), also known as pyogenic granuloma, is a benign vascular lesion most often found on the skin and oral mucosa. Its occurrence in the nasal cavity is uncommon, yet clinically significant because of its rapid growth, tendency to bleed, and similarity to more aggressive tumors. Although the exact cause is uncertain, trauma, hormonal influences, and vascular malformations have been suggested as contributing factors. We describe the case of a 41-year-old married woman with no known comorbidities who presented with progressive right-sided nasal obstruction, a gradual

Vascular lesions of head and neck region: A pictorial review.

Vascular lesions in the head and neck region encompass a wide spectrum of malformations and tumors, ranging from hemangiomas to arteriovenous fistulas. The International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies classification system categorizes these anomalies into vascular tumors and malformations. Vascular tumors are further divided into benign, borderline, and malignant types, while vascular malformations are classified based on flow characteristics as high or low flow. Accurate delineation of these lesions is crucial due to their clinical implications, particularly their location and po

Evaluation of the efficacy of Er,Cr:YSGG laser in Treating oral benign soft tissue lesions.

BACKGROUND: Managing benign oral soft tissue lesions presents a clinical challenge, often requiring invasive procedures with associated drawbacks. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser has emerged as a potential solution, given its precision and minimal tissue disruption in other medical contexts. METHODS: This pre-post study involved 16 participants diagnosed with benign oral soft tissue lesions. The lesions were excised using the Er,Cr:YSGG laser (2780 nm) with 2.75‒3.75-W power outputs. Pain was quantified using a numerical rating scale from 0 to 10, and edema presence was noted. Function interference and

Clinical, Dermoscopic, Ultrasonographic, and Histopathologic Correlations in Kaposi's Sarcoma Lesions and Their Differential Diagnoses: A Single-Center Prospective Study.

(1) Background: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is an angioproliferative neoplasm typically appearing as angiomatous patches, plaques, and/or nodules on the skin. Dermoscopy and ultrasonography have been suggested as an aid in the diagnosis of KS, but there is little evidence in the literature, especially regarding its possible differential diagnoses. Our aim is to describe and compare the clinical, dermoscopic, and ultrasonographic features of KS and KS-like lesions. (2) Methods: we conducted a prospective study on 25 consecutive patients who were first referred to our tertiary care center from January

S-100 Negative Granular Cell Tumor (So-called Primitive Polypoid Non-neural Granular Cell Tumor) of the Oral Cavity.

Four cases of cutaneous S-100 negative granular cell tumor were described in 1991. Until now, only 3 cases of oral involvement have been documented in English literature. Two additional cases of oral S-100 negative granular cell tumor are described. Immunohistochemical markers were applied to exclude other lesions that may show the presence of granular cells. The clinical findings were correlated with the histopathological and immunohistochemical features to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis. S-100 negative granular cell tumors are erythematous polypoid masses commonly mistaken for granulati

[Tumors of the lacrimal drainage system].

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of tumors affecting the lacrimal drainage system is low, thus generating a risk of late diagnosis and treatment in clinical routine. However, these tumors can be potentially life-threatening, which emphasizes the relevance of early diagnosis and treatment. OBJECTIVE: This review focuses on the symptoms, incidence, management, and prognosis of the different tumor entities affecting the lacrimal drainage system. METHODS: The study provides a PubMed-based literature review and presents own clinical results. RESULTS: Alongside detailed medical history taking and compr

Prevalence and distribution of oral mucosal lesions in a geriatric Indian population.

BACKGROUND: Oral health is important to individuals of all age groups. Previous epidemiologic studies of the oral health status of the general population in India provided very little information about oral mucosal lesions in the elderly. Hence, the purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of the oral lesions in a geriatric Indian population. METHODS: 5,100 patients were clinically evaluated, with age ranging from 60 to 98 years. There were 3,100 males and 2,000 females, with a mean age of 69 ± 6.3 yrs. The statistical analysis was done using the SPSS software, where p < .

Diagnosing Common Benign Skin Tumors.

Patients will experience a wide range of skin growths and changes over their lifetime. Family physicians should be able to distinguish potentially malignant from benign skin tumors. Most lesions can be diagnosed on the basis of history and clinical examination. Lesions that are suspicious for malignancy, those with changing characteristics, symptomatic lesions, and those that cause cosmetic problems may warrant medical therapy, a simple office procedure (e.g., excision, cryosurgery, laser ablation), or referral. Acrochordons are extremely common, small, and typically pedunculated benign neopla

Study of the etiopathogenesis and differential diagnosis of oral vascular lesions by immunoexpression of GLUT-1 and HIF-1α.

BACKGROUND: To investigate whether the immunohistochemical expression of GLUT-1 and HIF-1α is related to the diagnosis and pathogenesis of oral vascular lesions. STUDY METHODS: Thirty cases each of pyogenic granuloma (PG) and hemangioma were studied. Antibodies against GLUT-1 and HIF-1α were detected by immunoperoxidase staining in 3-μm histological sections, and the results were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, respectively. Positive and negative cells were counted, and the mean number of positive cells was calculated for each case. RESULTS: The initial diagnosis of hemangioma was

New clinical and histological patterns of acute disseminated histoplasmosis in human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

Histoplasmosis has attained increasing relevance in the past 3 decades because of the appearance of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In most immunocompetent persons, the infection is asymptomatic or can produce a respiratory condition with symptoms and radiological images similar to those observed in pulmonary tuberculosis; in non-HIV+ immunocompromised patients, it can cause respiratory symptoms or evolve into a disseminated infection. The same can occur in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients. We have observed a series of HIV+ patients with AIDS who presented with cutane
