Interpretation of basic gross pathologic changes of the digestive tract.

The necropsy is a valuable diagnostic tool. When presented with a dead animal, it is not uncommon for the necropsy to be the springboard for the entire diagnostic evaluation. Not only is important information gained from gross examination of the organs but during necropsy, tissue and fluid samples for supportive tests--bacterial culture, antibiotic sensitivity, virus isolation, serology, parasite burden, and toxicologic and histopathologic studies--are collected. It is not essential for a veterinarian to be a pathologist to get good information from a necropsy. This article attempted to identi

Multiple strategies are required to address the information and support needs of gay and bisexual men with hepatitis C in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is increasingly reported among gay and bisexual men. However, little is known about the personal and social dimensions of HCV-related experience among these men in Australia. Correlates of self-reported history of mental health help-seeking: a cross-sectional study among individuals with symptoms of a mental or substance use disorder initiating care for HIV in Cameroon.

BACKGROUND: Mental health and substance use disorders (MSDs) increase the risk of poor human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care outcomes among people living with HIV (PLWH). Receipt of mental health care may improve these adverse outcomes. We aimed to identify correlates of prior mental health help-seeking among PLWH with symptoms of an MSD in Cameroon. METHODS: We characterize prior mental health help-seeking from formal (mental health specialist/general medical provider) and informal (traditional healer/religious leader) sources among 161 people with symptoms of depression (Patient Health Qu

Recall of information received in hospital by female cardiac patients.

BACKGROUND: The type and source of health information supplied to patients following cardiac events significantly improve adherence and health behaviours. The impact of health information upon female patients, however, is not well documented. This study investigates women's recall of the type and source of information provided to them in hospital about resuming daily activities after a cardiac event. It also identified women least likely to recall receiving information. METHODS: Interviews were conducted with female cardiac patients consecutively admitted to four metropolitan hospitals after

Vicarious Acquisition of Learned Helplessness During the COVID-19 Campus Epidemics in China: Interactions Between Embodied and Mediated Experiences.

Numerous universities nationwide announced urgent implementation of closed campus management due to the epidemics of COVID-19 in Chinese universities since March 2022, and a large number of students were under quarantine. This study aims to explore how embodied experiences (i.e., centralized quarantine and self-quarantine) and mediated experiences (i.e., exposure to media sources, pandemic information overload, and online help seeking) influence the acquisition of learned helplessness during the campus epidemics among the Chinese university students, besides, how do these two types of experien

Tools available to communities for conducting cumulative exposure and risk assessments.

This paper summarizes and assesses over 70 tools that could aid with gathering information and taking action on environmental issues related to community-based cumulative risk assessments (CBCRA). Information on tool use, development and research needs, was gathered from websites, documents, and CBCRA program participants and researchers, including 25 project officers who work directly with community groups. The tools were assessed on the basis of information provided by project officers, community members, CBCRA researchers, and by case study applications. Tables summarize key environmental i

Consent for regional anaesthesia in the United Kingdom: what is material risk?

Legal principles that apply to the process of informed consent have changed in recent years. Patients should now be given the information that they wish to receive, not the information that health professionals may consider reasonable for them. In obstetric practice informed consent is especially important as young, fit patients may request and receive non-essential but potentially life-threatening interventions. The quantity and detail of information parturients desire do not remain static. They vary over time and from country to country. Our paper examines current opinion amongst parturients

Microtia and Social Media: Patient Versus Physician Perspective of Quality of Information.

INTRODUCTION: Previous research demonstrates that patients seek high-quality information on the World Wide Web, especially in rare conditions such as microtia.
