16 cases of intussusception, occurred in the last 9 years in the Pediatric Department of the Ospedale di Circolo of Varese, are reported. Barium enema was carried out in 15 cases and the reduction of the intussusception, attempted in 5 of them, was obtained in 3 (20%). The low rate of the attempts of reduction by barium enema is consistently related to a delay in the diagnosis; 56% of the patients showed actually at the diagnosis the three main symptoms simultaneously: abdominal pain, vomiting, "currant jelly stool". Three out of 12,974 fowl in 13 floor pen tests spanning 7 years developed intestinal intussusceptions. Multiple (two separate) intussusceptions in the same bird and a single intussusception with prolapsed colon are conditions both reported for the second time only. Over a 20 year period, 64 patients with primary neoplasms of the small intestine were treated by celiotomy (61 patients) or surgical endoscopy (3 patients). Gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia (38 percent of patients) characterized benign lesions, whereas pain (42 percent), nausea and vomiting (26 percent), weight loss (29 percent), and either gastrointestinal obstruction or jaundice (18 percent) were more indicative of malignancy. A 58 years-old man suffering from continuous melaena was found inoperable after laparotomy because of having multiple tumorous lesion and perforation of the small intestine. Autopsy showed two perforated and four other ulcerated tumours in a 70 cm long part of jejunum. Histology corresponded to a locally aggressive leiomyosarcoma without secondaries.

We report a 11 year-old boy with ileo-ileal intussusception due to a pediculated tumor of the bowel wall. This lesion was found to be a lymphangiolipoma in which mature adipose cells were interspersed with dilated lymphatic ressels. Tumorectomy by enterotomy was curative. The ranty of this hamartomatous lesion is pointed out.

A high incidence of intestinal lymphoma has been noted in the Middle East since the early 1960's. Initially thought to be a single entity, Middle Eastern intestinal lymphoma is now perceived as at least 3 distinct types. Mediterranean lymphoma (MTL), also known as alpha chain disease and immunoproliferative small intestinal disease (IPSID), occurs in the proximal small intestine of young adults who present with malabsorption.
