PURPOSE: The aim of this population-based cohort study was to determine the risk of second primary cancer in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) patients in Lithuania.
METHODS: This analysis was based on patients diagnosed with BCC in Lithuania between 1998 and 2007 and followed until 2011. Standardized incidence ratios for subsequent cancers as a ratio of observed number of cancer cases in people with previous BCC diagnosis to the expected number of cancer cases in the underlying general population were calculated.

INTRODUCTION: At face level, tissue transplantation is one of the main methods in reconstructive surgery, generally used when local and locoregional reserves are outworked. To reconstruct different face units after trauma or oncologic resection we use different methods, according to dimensions, nature and site of the defect. The development of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lip is considered to be mainly related to excessive sun exposure. However, its higher metastatic rate is distinct from that of SCCs arising from other sites of sun-damaged skin. Flow cytometric DNA content analysis, using paraffin-embedded specimens, was performed on 15 SCCs of the lip and 32 SCCs arising from other sites of sun-damaged skin. Twenty-two of 90 patients with carcinoma of the anterior oral cavity treated at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Hospital from 1965 through 1973 had advanced lesions - tumors attached to the mandible and/or more than 3 cm in size. Traumatic neuromas are relatively rare entities that characteristically arise following surgery or trauma. In this report, a case of a traumatic neuroma of the mental nerve following chin augmentation is described. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a well-defined oval mass. Part of the lesion was removed and histopathological examination confirmed the lesion to be a traumatic neuroma.

We report on a child with midline facial defects with hypertelorism (MFDH), median cleft lip, sphenoidal ventriculocele, partial agenesis of the corpus callosum, and low-grade astrocytoma in the cervicomedullary junction. This combination of findings has not been reported previously. Although this association might be casual, it demonstrates a relationship between disorders of frontonasal process and posterior fossae. It also suggests that individuals with MFDH might require a prospective follow-up with central nervous system magnetic resonance imaging.

We have determined the gene expression of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) metabolizing enzymes (SphK1, SphK2, SGPL1, SGPP1, SGPP2, PPAP2A, PPAP2B, and PPAP2C) by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues of 50 oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients. Our research is focused on the incidence of diabetes mellitus and glucose metabolic disorders among oral cancer patients and the frequency of different oral localizations of cancer. Diabetes mellitus affects 7% of the Hungarian population. This study uses data spanning 14 years, with 2 datasets of 1998-1999 and 2012-2013, collected first hand by the authors. These datasets have led us to examine the blood glucose level in 267 patients with histologically confirmed malignant tumours in the oral cavity. While the most common location of facial involvement is the orbito-temporal region, patients often present with significant mid-face deformities.
