Might Thyroid Function in Patients with Turner Syndrome Have a Significant Impact on Their Muscle Strength?

Turner syndrome (TS) is a genetic disorder caused by abnormalities in one of the X chromosomes. Individuals with TS have a higher incidence of autoimmune thyroid disorders, particularly Hashimoto's disease, leading to thyroid dysfunction, most commonly hypothyroidism. Hormonal imbalance, growth hormone deficiency, and reduced physical activity contribute to muscle weakness in TS patients, and thyroid dysfunction can exacerbate these effects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether thyroid factors affect muscle strength in female patients with TS. The study included 70 women with TS a

Fibrous dysplasia in cardio-facio-cutaneous syndrome: A case report and review of literature.

Cardio-facio-cutaneous (CFC) syndrome (OMIM #:115150, 615278, 615279, 615280) is a rare genetic condition caused by variants in the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway. Up to 75% of cases are caused by mutations in the BRAF gene, whereas KRAS gene mutation has only been reported in <2% of cases. CFC syndrome is characterized by cardiac abnormalities, distinctive craniofacial dysmorphism, and various cutaneous abnormalities. Musculoskeletal and orthopedic manifestations are also prevalent in patients with CFC syndrome, among which the most common are skeletal

Intrafamilial variability of XYLT2-related spondyloocular syndrome.

Spondyloocular syndrome is characterized by generalized osteoporosis, multiple fractures and severe ocular findings. The causative XYLT2 mutations have recently been identified with the use of whole exome sequencing. We report on two siblings with spondyloocular syndrome who presented with varying clinical severity. A novel XYLT2 missense mutation was detected in a region evolutionary conserved across the species. This report along with the previous reports demonstrates that variable expressivity may be possible even within the same family. These two siblings with a novel mutation further expa

Phenotypic spectrum and management of sternal cleft: literature review and presentation of a new series.

Sternal cleft is a chest wall malformation that can expose mediastinal viscera and vessels to injuries. It can be classified into two forms, complete and partial. Its etiology and incidence are unknown and it is often associated with other defects. The aim of this article is to review the literature and report our experience with this rare anomaly, focusing on clinical presentation and management. We reviewed the English written literature about sternal cleft and collected the clinical data of all the published series. We present seven new cases that we have observed and treated since 1999.
