Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Analysis of TaDES1 Gene Family Responded to Biotic and Abiotic Stress in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).

L-Cysteine desulfhydrase (DES1), a key enzyme in eukaryotes, catalyzes the synthesis of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is a gaseous signaling molecule. However, the genes encoding DES1 enzymes in wheat, one of the world's most important crop species, have yet to be fully characterized. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of the wheat TaDES1 gene family and delves into its potential functions. We identified a total of 18 TaDES1 genes, located across 13 chromosomes, categorized them into four subfamilies, and comprehensively analyzed their physicochemical properties. Furthermore, three DES

Screening TLR4 Binding Peptide from Naja atra Venom Glands Based on Phage Display.

Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is a crucial inflammatory signaling pathway that can serve as a potential treatment target for various disorders. A number of inhibitors have been developed for the TLR4 pathway, and although no inhibitors have been approved for clinical use, most have been screened against the TLR4-MD2 conformation. The venom gland is the organ of venomous snakes that secretes substances that are toxic to other animals. The level of gene transcription in venom glands is different from that in other tissues, includes a large number of biologically active ingredients, and is an impor

Metagenomic approach to infer rumen microbiome derived traits of cattle.

Ruminants enable the conversion of indigestible plant material into animal consumables, including dairy products, meat, and valuable fibers. Microbiome research is gaining popularity in livestock species because it aids in the knowledge of illnesses and efficiency processes in animals. In this study, we use WGS metagenomic data to thoroughly characterize the ruminal ecosystem of cows to infer positive and negative livestock traits determined by the microbiome. The rumen of cows from Argentina were described by combining different gene biomarkers, pathways composition and taxonomic information.

Optimization of protoplast cell division and microcallus formation toward somatic embryogenesis in oil palm.

BACKGROUND: Efficient protoplast regeneration remains a major obstacle to the application of somatic hybridization, genome editing and precision breeding in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis); while early developmental stages, from cell wall regeneration and cell division to microcolony and microcallus formation, could be more important, which could be connected easily with the traditional tissue culture system for succeeding plant regeneration. This study aimed to optimize the protopalst culture conditions for cell division and microcallus formation by identifying the most effective combinations of

Colloid mill modified zein suspension technology for plant protein rich bird food: first clutch performance compared with egg based food in fiorino canaries.

BACKGROUND: The present study evaluated a technology-driven approach for producing a plant-protein-rich bird food based on colloid-mill-modified zein suspension and compared its first-clutch reproductive performance with an egg-based food in Fiorino canaries. The formulation strategy was informed by literature showing that intensive mechanical processing can reduce aggregation and improve matrix homogeneity in zein-rich maize protein systems [1]. ZEIN16 was therefore evaluated primarily as a processed-zein technology platform and bird-food prototype. METHODS: Forty first-time Fiorino canary p

Comprehensive evaluation of agronomic traits, physiological responses, and gene expression in chickpea cultivars under fungal stress.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), a widely grown legume with significant economic importance, serves as an important nutrient source for humans. However, its production is severely constrained by Fusarium wilt, caused by the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. Due to the high pathogenic variability, effective control remains challenging, and the plant's defense responses are not yet fully understood. In this study, we provide novel insights by identifying cultivar-specific responses and uncovering novel gene expression profiles associated with Fusarium resistance, which advance current understanding bey

Contrasting pathogen prevalence between tick and dog populations at Chornobyl.

BACKGROUND: The 1986 disaster at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant released massive amounts of radioactive material into the local environment. In addition to radiation, remediation efforts and abandonment of military-industrial complexes contributed to contamination with heavy metals, organics, pesticides and other toxic chemicals. Numerous studies have evaluated the effects of this contamination on the local ecology. However, few studies have reported the effect of this contamination on vector-borne pathogens and their hosts. In this manuscript, we characterize tick-borne pathogen presence a

Effect of Different Salts on Nutrients Uptake, Gene Expression, Antioxidant, and Growth Pattern of Selected Rice Genotypes.

Climate change leads to soil salinization, and the dynamic scarcity of freshwater has negatively affected crop production worldwide, especially Oryza sativa. The association among ion uptake, gene expression, antioxidant, biomass, and root and shoot development under different salt stress are not fully understood. Many studies are related to the effect of NaCl only. This study used two salts (CaCl2 and MgCl2) along with NaCl and analyzed their effects on mineral uptake (macronutrients and micronutrients), gene expression, seed germination, antioxidants, plant growth, and biomass in different r

Gene expression and plant hormone levels in two contrasting rice genotypes responding to brown planthopper infestation.

BACKGROUND: The brown planthopper (BPH; Nilaparvata lugens Stål) is a destructive piercing-sucking insect pest of rice. The plant hormones salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) play important roles in plant-pest interactions. Many isolated rice genes that modulate BPH resistance are involved in the metabolism or signaling pathways of SA, JA and ethylene. 'Rathu Heenati' (RH) is a rice cultivar with a high-level, broad-spectrum resistance to all BPH biotypes. Here, RH was used as the research material, while a BPH-susceptible rice cultivar 'Taichung Native 1' (TN1) was the control. A cDNA

Variance component estimates, phenotypic characterization, and genetic evaluation of bovine congestive heart failure in commercial feeder cattle.

The increasing incidence of bovine congestive heart failure (BCHF) in feedlot cattle poses a significant challenge to the beef industry from economic loss, reduced performance, and reduced animal welfare attributed to cardiac insufficiency. Changes to cardiac morphology as well as abnormal pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) in cattle of mostly Angus ancestry have been recently characterized. However, congestive heart failure affecting cattle late in the feeding period has been an increasing problem and tools are needed for the industry to address the rate of mortality in the feedlot for multipl

[Herbal textual research on Chinese medicine "Huangjing" (Polygonati Rhizoma)and some enlightenments].

To clarify the change and development of the original plants, medicinal organs, traditional functions, resource distribution of "Huangjing"(Polygonati Rhizome), a traditional Chinese medicine, we investigated Polygonatum species on the ancient Chinese herbal texts. The name of "Nüwei" was first carried out in the book of Sheng Nong's Herbal Classic. Its effects included two aspects: one was similar to "Weirui"(Polygonati Odorati Rhizome, "Yuzhu"), that was tonifying, nourishing one's vitality, removing wind and dampness, settling five organs, making body lightness, keeping longevity and not be

Fueling the fall migration of the monarch butterfly.

Monarch butterflies in eastern North America accumulate lipids during their fall migration to central Mexico, and use them as their energy source during a 5 month overwintering period. When and where along their migratory journey the butterflies accumulate these lipids has implications for the importance of fall nectar sources in North America. We analyzed the lipid content of 765 summer breeding and fall migrant monarch butterflies collected at 1 nectaring site in central Virginia over 4 years (1998-2001), and compared them with 16 additional published and unpublished datasets from other site

Evolutionary characteristics of the GAPDH gene family and functional characterization of TaGAPDH5 in wheat.

BACKGROUND: Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a key glycolytic enzyme that also plays important roles in plant responses to abiotic stresses. However, the evolutionary relationships of the GAPDH genes among wheat species with different ploidy levels remain poorly understood, and the key TaGAPDH members involved in the drought response of wheat have yet to be identified. RESULTS: In this study, we identified 5, 6, 13, and 19 GAPDH proteins in Triticum urartu, Aegilops tauschii, Triticum turgidum, and Triticum aestivum with different ploidy levels. All identified GAPDH protein

Genome‑wide identification of the NHX gene family in Forsythia identifies FsNHX3 and FsNHX6 as potential candidates involved in abiotic stress responses.

The Na ⁺ /H⁺ antiporter (NHX) gene family plays a central role in maintaining cellular ion homeostasis and responding to abiotic stress in plants. However, the systematic identification and functional characterization of this gene family in woody plants of the genus Forsythia remain unexplored. To address this, genome-wide identification and systematic comparative analysis of the NHX gene family were performed in three Forsythia species, Forsythia suspensa, F. viridissima, and F. ovata, with a focus on elucidating F. suspensa NHX gene expression under various types of stress: salt, drought (PE

Global agriculture shows limited evidence of a pollinator-driven yield decline to date.

BACKGROUND: During recent decades, declines in the abundance and diversity of wild pollinators have been widely documented, largely driven by human-induced disturbance, such as agricultural expansion, land-use change, pesticide use, invasive species, urbanization, and climate change. Because deficits in animal pollination often limit fruit and seed production in both wild plants and cultivated crops -due to insufficient or ineffective pollen deposition on flowers' stigmas- pollinator decline has raised concern about consequences for plant reproduction and agricultural yields. Expected increase

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis of Leaves and Roots Responses in Salt-Tolerant Barley Line CC89/Giza123 Under Salinity Stress.

Salinity stress has a debilitating effect on crop productivity and triggers complex molecular changes in plants, and understanding these responses is important for improving stress tolerance. This study investigated transcriptomic changes in the salt-tolerant barley line CC89/Giza123 by analyzing gene expression in roots and leaves following exposure to 200 mM NaCl for 12 and 24 h. The number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showed a much stronger response in roots than in leaves. At 12 h, roots showed 1836 DEGs, and this number increased to 2696 at 24 h, whereas leaves showed 256 DEGS

The Complex Interactions Between Flowering Behavior and Fiber Quality in Hemp.

Hemp, Cannabis sativa L., is a sustainable multipurpose fiber crop with high nutrient and water use efficiency and with biomass of excellent quality for textile fibers and construction materials. The yield and quality of hemp biomass are largely determined by the genetic background of the hemp cultivar but are also strongly affected by environmental factors, such as temperature and photoperiod. Hemp is a facultative short-day plant, characterized by a strong adaptation to photoperiod and a great influence of environmental factors on important agronomic traits such as "flowering-time" and "sex

Resistance to Rhopalosiphum padi (Homoptera: Aphididae) in three triticale accessions.

Experiments were conducted to identify and characterize host plant resistance to bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi (L.), in various wheat and wheat-grass hybrids. Initial tests screened for resistance to R. padi among 12 grass accessions (eight wheat [Triticum aestivum L.], three triticale [XTriticosecale Wittmack], and 1XElytricum [Elytrigia elongata [Host] Nevski x Triticum aestivum hybrid]). R. padi had less population growth on triticale accessions '8TA5L' (PI 611760) and 'Stniism 3' (PI 386156) than on other accessions, but nymphiposition by R. padi did not differ among the 12 acc

A WHY1-NADK3-PEX5 module confers drought tolerance by maintaining peroxisomal ROS homeostasis in Brassica napus.

Drought severely limits rapeseed productivity, but the role of NAD kinase in this process remains unclear. Here, we identify BnaA07.NADK3 as a drought- and ABA-inducible peroxisomal NADK in Brassica napus. Overexpression of BnaA07.NADK3 enhanced drought tolerance, whereas CRISPR/Cas9-edited lines showed reduced drought tolerance. Mechanistically, overexpression of BnaA07.NADK3 elevates NADK activity and NADPH accumulation, thereby promoting the scavenging of drought-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Transcriptome profiling of BnaA07.NADK3-overexpressing plants revealed significant enrichm
