BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The usefulness of two tests in the serodiagnosis of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) was compared. The tests were the serum Aspergillus galactomannan antigen test (Platelia (R) Aspergillus) by enzyme-linked immunoassay (EIA) using old and new cut-off indexes, and the Aspergillus precipitating antibody test.
METHODS: Both Aspergillus-precipitating antibody and Platelia Aspergillus EIA positivity were measured in the sera of 28 patients at the time of diagnosis of CPA.
RESULTS: Serum Aspergillus precipitating antibody positivity was 89.3% (25/28) in CPA patients.

We surveyed for autoantibodies to the U small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) in sera from 1171 patients with various connective tissue diseases by immunoprecipitation assay. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a form of pemphigus considered to bear characteristic immunohistopathological features (vacuolar-interface dermatitis, keratinocyte dyskeratosis and reactivity of patients' sera with transitional epithelia). We have generated a murine monoclonal antibody (UV3) which recognizes an epitope on ICAM-1 expressed on myeloma cells. Recently we reported the expression of the human natural killer cell associated antigen CD56 (Leu 19/NKH1) in plasma cells of a majority of multiple myeloma (MM) patients.
