Multimode Optical Sensor Array Combined with Machine Learning for Accurate Identification and Concentration Prediction of Amino Acid Enantiomers.

Simultaneous identification and quantification of multiple amino acid (AA) enantiomers remain as significant challenges. In this study, a multimode, six-channel optical sensor array was developed by three fluorescent/colorimetric carbon dots, which can provide distinctive fluorescence and UV-vis signals to d/l-glutamine, d/l-tryptophan, and d/l-glutamic acid. With the help of machine learning algorithms, this sensor array enabled the accurate qualitative identification and concentration prediction of the three AA enantiomers. The discrimination accuracy for binary and ternary mixtures achieves

Dynamic prediction of HIV-related incomplete immune reconstitution: A multicenter, large cohort study using advanced joint modeling.

Incomplete immune reconstitution (IIR) is a serious complication affecting 10 to 40% of people living with HIV (PLWH) despite effective antiretroviral therapy, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Current risk prediction models rely on single-time point measurements and lack dynamic assessment capabilities. We developed a dynamic joint prediction system for IIR risk (DJPSIIR) using Bayesian joint modeling to analyze longitudinal data from 21,862 PLWH across 31 Chinese provinces (2003-2024). The system integrates continuous CD4+ T cell counts and CD4/CD8 ratios with clinical parameters

The evolution of surrogate microspheres in transarterial radioembolization: from SPECT prediction to multimodal AI-guided precision dosimetry.

Surrogate materials enable pre-treatment prediction of intra-hepatic distribution of therapeutic radioactive microsphere, facilitating patient-specific dosimetry for transarterial radioembolization (TARE). Technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin (⁹⁹ᵐTc-MAA) has long constituted the clinical standard for SPECT-based surrogates, however, its fundamental physicochemical difference from therapeutic microspheres limits the reliability of MAA-based dosimetry and prediction for personalized treatment planning. Next-generation surrogate technology includes biodegradable polymeric microspheres engineere

Recent advances in machine learning predictions of protein-ligand binding affinities.

Accurately predicting protein-ligand binding affinities is a central task in rational drug design, as it directly influences hit discovery, lead optimization, and compound prioritization. Traditional approaches often suffer from limited accuracy, high computational cost, or dependence on heuristic scoring functions. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) have introduced new paradigms for the binding affinity prediction. In this review, we survey the latest developments in ML-based predictions of protein-ligand binding affinities across various directions, including structure-based approaches

Obesity prediction: Novel machine learning insights into waist circumference accuracy.

AIMS: This study aims to enhance the precision of obesity risk assessments by improving the accuracy of waist circumference predictions using machine learning techniques. METHODS: We utilized data from the NHANES and Look AHEAD studies, applying machine learning algorithms augmented with uncertainty quantification. Our approach centered on conformal prediction techniques, which provide a methodological basis for generating prediction intervals that reflect uncertainty levels. This method allows for constructing intervals expected to contain the true waist circumference values with a high degr

Bus Single-Trip Time Prediction Based on Ensemble Learning.

The prediction of bus single-trip time is essential for passenger travel decision-making and bus scheduling. Since many factors could influence bus operations, the accurate prediction of the bus single-trip time faces a great challenge. Moreover, bus single-trip time has obvious nonlinear and seasonal characteristics. Hence, in order to improve the accuracy of bus single-trip time prediction, five prediction algorithms including LSTM (Long Short-term Memory), LR (Linear Regression), KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor), XGBoost (Extreme Gradient Boosting), and GRU (Gate Recurrent Unit) are used and examin…

DYNAMIC CLASSIFICATION OF LATENT DISEASE PROGRESSION WITH AUXILIARY SURROGATE LABELS.

Disease progression prediction based on patients' evolving health information is challenging when true disease states are unknown due to diagnostic capabilities or high costs. For example, the absence of gold-standard neurological diagnoses hinders distinguishing Alzheimer's disease (AD) from related conditions such as AD-related dementias (ADRDs), including Lewy body dementia (LBD). Combining temporally dependent surrogate labels and health markers may improve disease prediction. However, existing literature models informative surrogate labels and observed variables that reflect the underlyin

Machine Learning-Driven Prediction of Formability and Cubic Phase in Compositionally Complex ABO3 Perovskite Oxides.

Perovskite oxides (ABO3) are widely investigated for energy-related applications due to their compositional flexibility and tunable physicochemical properties. However, identifying formable and cubic perovskite oxides from the vast compositional space remains challenging using conventional approaches, especially for doped perovskite oxides. In this work, a two-stage machine learning framework is developed to accelerate the discovery of formable and cubic perovskite oxides in doped ABO3 compositions. A dataset comprising 1502 ABO3 compounds was compiled from published literature. Compositional

Individualized prediction of anxiety and depressive symptoms using gray matter volume in a non-clinical population.

Machine learning is an emerging tool in clinical psychology and neuroscience for the individualized prediction of psychiatric symptoms. However, its application in non-clinical populations is still in its infancy. Given the widespread morphological changes observed in psychiatric disorders, our study applies five supervised machine learning regression algorithms-ridge regression, support vector regression, partial least squares regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, and Elastic-Net regression-to predict anxiety and depressive symptom scores. We base these predi

Prediction of fractional flow reserve with enhanced ant lion optimized support vector machine.

The evaluation of coronary morphology provides important guidance for the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). A chaotic Gaussian mutation antlion optimizer algorithm (CGALO) is proposed in the paper, and it is combined with SVM to construct a classification prediction model for Fractional flow reserve (FFR). To overcome the limitations of the original antlion optimizer (ALO) algorithm, the chaotic Gaussian mutation strategy is introduced, which leads to an improvement in its convergence speed and accuracy. To evaluate the proposed algorithm's performance, comparative experiments were co

Prediction of Preterm Delivery from Unbalanced EHG Database.

OBJECTIVE: The early prediction of preterm labor can significantly minimize premature delivery complications for both the mother and infant. The aim of this research is to propose an automatic algorithm for the prediction of preterm labor using a single electrohysterogram (EHG) signal. METHOD: The proposed method firstly employs empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to split the EHG signal into two intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), then extracts sample entropy (SampEn), the root mean square (RMS), and the mean Teager-Kaiser energy (MTKE) from each IMF to form the feature vector. Finally, the extr

Using an optimal set of features with a machine learning-based approach to predict effector proteins for Legionella pneumophila.

Type IV secretion systems exist in a number of bacterial pathogens and are used to secrete effector proteins directly into host cells in order to change their environment making the environment hospitable for the bacteria. In recent years, several machine learning algorithms have been developed to predict effector proteins, potentially facilitating experimental verification. However, inconsistencies exist between their results. Previously we analysed the disparate sets of predictive features used in these algorithms to determine an optimal set of 370 features for effector prediction. This stud
