INTRODUCTION: Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a type of external resorption that begins below the epithelial attachment. The etiology of ICR is mainly caused by trauma or orthodontic treatment. In many cases, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a very useful tool to achieve proper diagnosis.
METHODS: This case presented with invasive cervical resorption class III (Heithersay) caused by trauma on tooth #9. CBCT was performed allowing observation of the extent of the lesion in the three spatial planes.
RESULTS: Treatment was combined: surgical treatment to expose the resorptive defec

Traumatic tooth fractures represent an intriguing challenge for clinicians, particularly when they involve the anterior region of the maxilla. In such situations, esthetic, psychosocial, functional, and therapeutic problems may have a negative effect on the patient's quality of life. In addition, fractures that involve the biologic width of the periodontium are even more difficult to treat. An interdisciplinary approach based on crown lengthening with or without orthodontic extrusion and the definitive prosthetic rehabilitation represent the standard modality of treatment for these conditions

It is known that storage media can affect the physical properties of some restorative dental materials. The purpose of this laboratory study was to investigate the possible effects of storage media on physical properties of a conventional glass-ionomer, a resin modified glass ionomer and a compomer. Specimens of the restorative materials in the study (FujiII LC, FujiIX and Dyract EXTRA) were prepared. The specimens were stored in either water or artificial saliva with or without exposure to Listerine. The compressive and diametral tensile strength and Vickers hardness of these materials were t

A newly developed material, which we call biocement, consisting of bisphenol-a-glycidyl methacrylate ("epoxide methacrylate') as organic matrix and Bioceramic Battelle, Bioglass Hench and/or pentacalcium hydroxide triphosphate ("tri-calcium phosphate') powder as filling particles is presented. In an extension of previous experiments, various types of this biocement, containing different admixtures of particulate matter, were employed to test their usefulness in head surgery, in particular maxillo-facial reconstruction, on dogs and a rhesus monkey. Encouraging results were obtained with regard

This article describes the treatment of gingival recession associated with noncarious cervical lesions by a connective tissue graft in combination with a resin-modified glass-ionomer restoration (CTG + R). Eleven patients showing the association of recession and lesions were selected and treated by CTG + R. Bleeding on probing, probing depth, relative gingival recession, clinical attachment level, noncarious cervical lesion height, and dentin sensitivity were measured. The treatment provided statistically significant gains in clinical attachment level and shallow probing depths. The percentage

PURPOSE: The development of high-strength oxide ceramic materials has led to increased interest in all-ceramic fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). Success rates reported in clinical studies for all-ceramic FDPs based on high-strength oxide ceramic materials reportedly approach those of porcelain-fused-to-metal FDPs. These reconstructions, however, are still of limited size and have mainly concerned FDPs supported by natural teeth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of multiunit all-ceramic FDPs supported by dental implants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients recei

The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate the fracture strength of endodontically treated canines restored with glass-fiber posts (GFPs) and either metal-ceramic (MC) or all-ceramic (AC) crowns in the presence or absence of 2 mm of ferrule height. Fifty human maxillary canines were endodontically treated and randomly divided into five groups of 10 specimens each. The first group remained intact (control), while the remainder were restored with GFPs and composite cores with either MC or AC crowns. Each of the AC and MC groups was equally divided between teeth with or without ferrule.

Despite improvements in composite treatments over the past decade, postoperative sensitivity still remains a problem. Therefore, this clinical study evaluated the appearance of postoperative sensitivity after composite treatments and the stimuli that may have caused it. A total of 600 teeth in 231 patients was included in this study. All treatments were performed by dental students working under close supervision following standard procedures and using the bonding system Optibond FL and the nanofilled composite Ceram X. At baseline (visit 1), the restorations were grouped according to the foll

AIM: To report the treatment and follow-up of a maxillary central incisor with internal resorption managed by root canal treatment, white mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) repair and a fibre-glass post for reinforcement.
SUMMARY: This study presents a case of extensive internal root resorption affecting tooth 11 (FDI) in a 28-year-old male patient, with a history of trauma in that region. The substantial loss of tooth structure, including cementum, and a perforation with lateral periodontal communication were complicating factors. Despite a guarded prognosis but encouraged by a healthy periodo

The purpose of this study was to evaluate histopathologically the effect on pulp tissue of microleakage in resin composite restorations. Seventy-two class V cavities were prepared on buccal surfaces of monkeys and divided into 3 groups, F, O, and S. Every cavity was etched with 37% phosphoric acid. In group F cavities, each cavity was restored with photo-curable composite without any dentin adhesives. In group O, the cavities were left unfilled. In group S, each cavity was treated with a dentin adhesive system and restored with a restorative composite. After 3, 30, or 90 days, animals were sac

BACKGROUND: Self-adhesive flowable resin composites (SAFRCs) offer simplified, single-step placement and are intended to reduce technique sensitivity, but their bonding remains largely inconsistent. Therefore, this study investigated whether pre-cure contact time and dentin surface finish affect immediate bond strength and interfacial morphology of two commercial SAFRCs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sound human molars were allocated to 12 groups: two SAFRCs (Vertise™ Flow; Constic) × two finishes (fine vs. coarse diamond) × three pre-cure contact times (immediate/0 min, 1 min, 5 min). For positive c

An experimental radiopaque resin root canal sealer was tested for tissue biocompatibility in rat connective tissue. The controls were four widely used sealers: Sealapex, Kerr's sealer, AH-26, and Roth's sealer. Polyethylene tubes were filled with the sealers and allowed to set for 24 hours in 100% humidity. Each sealer was implanted in the connective tissue of Sprague-Dawley rats and removed after 3, 10, 20, 30, and 60 days, fixed, and histologically prepared for light microscope evaluation. At each time period there was practically no difference in the reaction of all the sealers. By 60 days,
