BACKGROUND: This prospective study aims to explore the role of endothelial dysfunction in impaired wound healing following limb salvage procedures in patients with bone sarcomas. We propose that dysfunction of the vascular endothelium may significantly contribute to postoperative wound-related issues in these cases.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the applicability of the cytologic examination of serous fluids in the management of malignant neoplasms in children.
STUDY DESIGN: A review of the reports of all cytologic specimens of pleural, peritoneal and pericardial fluids from children examined in our laboratory during a 40-year period. A total of 226 specimens from 146 patients under 18 years old with a documented neoplasm were analyzed by diagnosis and fluid type. The data were tabulated and analyzed in a format that allowed comparison with the results of earlier studies.

The aim is to show our evolution for reconstruction of long bones in the child with free vascularized fibula after tumoral resection. Between 1990 and 2004, 78 children were operated on for sarcoma of long bones and one girl with congenital pseudarthrosis.
