We report a case of retroperitoneal abscess due to penetration of colonic diverticulosis during chemotherapy for sigmoid colon cancer. The patient was a 56-year-old man who was outpatient for chronic rheumatoid arthritis and was diagnosed sigmoid colon cancer with multiple simultaneous liver and lung metastases. The antitumor drugs were effective and the primary tumor was resected, and chemotherapy was continued due to progression of liver metastasis. The patient was a 67-year-old man with multiple liver metastases from sigmoid colon cancer and had received capecitabine, oxaliplatin, and bevacizumab(CAPOX plus Bev)combination chemotherapy. After 11 courses of this therapy, he had a rupture of esophageal varices and was treated with endoscopic variceal ligation(EVL). Esophageal varices are rare during the course of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy. More studies are necessary for early detection of esophageal varices during this therapy.

A 65-year-old woman complaining of fetor ex vagina was diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma of the uterus based on the pathological findings of an endometrial biopsy. From 1970-1981, 85 patients had curative sigmoid resections for adenocarcinoma and were eligible for postoperative adjuvant therapy. In a nonrandomized fashion, 10/28 B2,3 and 7/28 C2,3 patients received postoperative pelvic radiation therapy (4500-5100 rad/5-6 weeks). Vaginal reconstructive options commonly include the use of split-thickness skin grafts or intestinal conduits. When a colonic segment is chosen, the sigmoid colon is favored because of its location, size, and durability. When circumstances preclude the use of sigmoid colon and a colonic conduit is preferred, creative means of mobilization are required. A retrospective study evaluated 15 patients with pelvic recurrence of colorectal cancer in a previously irradiated region who received intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) as part of salvage therapy. Total prior external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) doses ranged from 45 to 79.2 Gy. Tumor resection was accomplished in 14 patients, with an exenteration performed in seven. IORT dose was 15-20 Gy. BACKGROUND: In recent years, the mortality rate for colorectal carcinoma in Japan has rapidly been increasing, and there are indications that it may surpass that of gastric carcinoma, with colorectal carcinoma fast becoming one of the main targets of cancer treatment in Japan.

Two cases of extra-osseous uptake of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) by non-osseous metastatic tumors are reported. One was a metastasis with ossification in the abdominal wall from carcinoma of the sigmoid colon and the other was a metastasis with calcification from an ovarian carcinoma. The mechanism of extra-osseous uptake of 99mTc-MDP is discussed. Bone scintigraphy can be a potential means to assess tumor spread with ossifications and calcifications.
