Extending Our Understanding of the Social Determinants of Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviors in Families: A Systems Mapping Approach.

BACKGROUND: The social environment is important to consider for effective promotion of movement behaviors like increased physical activity (PA) and reduced sedentary behavior (SB); yet, it is less often considered than individual and built environments. One way to advance social environment research is to develop system maps, an innovative, participatory, action-oriented research process that actively engages stakeholders to visualize system structures and explore how systems "work." The purpose of this research was to develop PA and SB system maps of the social environment embedded within the

The relationship between proactive health management, perceived social support, and symptoms in perimenopausal women: a latent profile and mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: Perimenopausal women experience various physical and psychological symptoms. Proactive health management and perceived social support are considered important factors in alleviating these symptoms. However, previous studies have largely overlooked the heterogeneity of proactive health management among individuals. This study aims to identify latent profiles of proactive health management in perimenopausal women and to explore the mediating role of perceived social support between different levels of proactive health management and perimenopausal symptoms. METHODS: Between February

Exploring pathways to compulsory detention in psychiatric hospital and ways to prevent repeat detentions; Service user perspectives.

This study, co-produced by a team of academics, lived experience researchers and clinicians, explores the views and experiences of people who have been compulsorily detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act (1983) (MHA) in England, to understand how and why, from their perspective, compulsory detentions occur, and what might help prevent them. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 20 people (55% male, 40% Black/Black British, 30% White British) who had been compulsory detained in hospital within the past 5 years. Lived experience researchers with relevant personal e

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on bus crash severity.

UNLABELLED: Recent research highlights significant shifts in travel patterns, traffic volumes, and safety measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Early findings suggest a nationwide decrease in crashes (22.0%) and injuries (16.7%) in 2020 compared to 2019 in the United States, but a concurrent increase in fatalities (6.8%) and severe injuries. The fatality rate persisted in 2021, with more than 10.5% increase from 2020 to 2021. Most collision research conducted after COVID-19 has focused on crashes involving private vehicles, leaving transit-related crashes less understood. METHOD: To fill thi

Acceptability of artificial intelligence in psychiatry: A script-based and network analysis study among French psychiatrists.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into psychiatric practice, raising not only technical but also epistemological and ethical questions. Beyond performance, the acceptability of AI remains a critical condition for its implementation, particularly in a field deeply rooted in subjectivity and clinical judgment. OBJECTIVES: To assess the acceptability of AI-based tools in psychiatry using a scenario-based approach, and to explore the structural relationships between its key dimensions (utility, usability, reliability, risk, and professional alignment) through net

Understanding COVID-19 Vaccination Intention in Japan: The Influence of Individual Social Capital and Personal Beliefs on Vaccination.

Background/Objectives: Vaccine hesitancy remains a significant public health challenge in Japan, particularly following the HPV vaccine suspension (2013-2022) that severely damaged vaccination trust. Although prior studies have linked individual social capital to vaccination behavior in Japan, whether and how personal vaccination beliefs modify this association remains poorly understood. This study examined associations between individual social capital (resources accessed through personal social networks) and COVID-19 vaccination intention, and how these associations interact with personal va

BACKGROUND: The 2022-23 mpox epidemic is the first-time sustained community transmission had been reported in countries without epidemiological links to endemic areas. During that period, the outbreak almost exclusively affected sexual networks of gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and people living with HIV. In efforts to control transmission, multiple public health measures were implemented, including vaccination, contact tracing and isolation. This study examines knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of mpox among a sample of GBMSM during the 2022-23 outbreak in the U

Early Target Object Prediction in Action Observation.

Previous research has shown that observers can predict the target object of a grasping action from early hand preshaping cues. However, critical questions remain unexplored: how predictions adapt to the available kinematic information and evolve throughout the movement timeline. We address these fundamental gaps by combining kinematic analysis with machine-learning approaches. Using motion capture technology, we recorded reach-to-grasp actions toward large and small objects and had participants predict target size from hand kinematics at varying time points. Our analysis revealed that predicti

Altered expression of circadian rhythm and extracellular matrix genes in the medial prefrontal cortex of a valproic acid rat model of autism.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a highly heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental disorders caused by complex interplay between various genes and environmental factors during embryonic development. Changes at the molecular, cellular and neuroanatomical levels are especially evident in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) of ASD patients and are particularly contributing to social impairments. In the present study we tested the hypothesis that altered neuronal development and plasticity, as seen in the mPFC of ASD individuals, may result from aberrant expression of functionally connected ge

Type 1 diabetes patients' experiences of, and need for, social support after attending a structured education programme: a qualitative longitudinal investigation.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To explore patients' experiences of, views about and need for, social support after attending a structured education programme for type 1 diabetes. BACKGROUND: Patients who attend structured education programmes attain short-term improvements in biomedical and quality-of-life measures but require support to sustain self-management principles over the longer term. Social support can influence patients' self-management practices; however, little is known about how programme graduates use other people's help. DESIGN: This study was informed by the principles of grounded the

The use of social media as an influence on vaccination rates: A systematic review protocol.

Vaccine hesitancy has emerged as one of the major challenges to global public health, exacerbated by the phenomenon of the infodemic-a surge of misinformation amplified through social media platforms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this dynamic significantly undermined public trust in vaccines. In this context, the present study protocol outlines a systematic review aimed at identifying and synthesizing evidence regarding the influence of infodemia on social media networks and its impact on vaccination coverage. The review will be conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) M

Social determinants of homelessness from childhood to adolescence: protocol for a living systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Homelessness across the early life course poses a grave and largely preventable challenge. Those who experience homelessness early are at increased risk of a range of health, education and social inequities that can extend across the life course. Better understanding of the modifiable factors on the pathway to homelessness is needed to inform prevention at the earliest possible point in the life course and reduce the rate of child and adolescent homelessness at the population level. Here we address this gap in real-time knowledge by establishing a living systematic review of popu
