PURPOSE: Non-specific chronic neck pain (NSCNP) is an increasingly common musculoskeletal disease and an important issue in the global healthcare system. Some studies have shown that the combination of manual therapy and exercise is effective in treating NSCNP but still with several limitations. Traditional Chinese manual therapy (tuina) is a Chinese manual therapy that consists of soft tissue manipulation and spinal manipulation. This study aims to design a randomized controlled trial to assess the effect of a tuina combined with specific therapeutic neck exercise modified protocol for NSCNP

Biomechanical studies play an important role in understanding the pathophysiology of sleep disorders and providing insights to maintain sleep health. Computational methods facilitate a versatile platform to analyze various biomechanical factors in silico, which would otherwise be difficult through in vivo experiments. The objective of this review is to examine and map the applications of computational biomechanics to sleep-related research topics, including sleep medicine and sleep ergonomics. A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Research gaps were identifie

INTRODUCTION: It has been suggested that the indication for lumbar total disc replacement (LTDR) takes into account the local parameters, such as the type of disc disease demonstrated on MRI and the presence or absence of facet joint osteoarthritis. The type of preoperative sagittal curvature could also be taken into account. This study reports the clinical results of LTDRs depending on the type of sagittal spinal alignment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty patients were included in this prospective study, with a mean age of 41.7years (range, 27-56years). The clinical analysis took into account t

Cyhexatin (CYT), an organotin acaricide, is extensively utilized in developing countries to mitigate plant diseases caused by mites and minimize agricultural crop losses. However, the comprehensive mechanisms underlying the developmental stage of non-target organisms remain largely unexplored. In this study, zebrafish embryos were firstly exposed to CYT (0.06, 0.12, and 0.20 ng/mL, referred to as CYTL, CYTM, and CYTH, respectively) from 2 hpf (hours post fertilization) to 30 dpf (days post fertilization). No developmental toxicity was observed in the CYTL and CYTM groups, except for induced de

BACKGROUND: Posterior-only procedures are becoming more popular for treatment of rigid adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, but little is known about the quantitative correction potential for Ponte osteotomies. The objective of this study was to quantify and compare the range of motion of intact multilevel thoracic spine segments with the same segments after each of 3 sequential Ponte osteotomies.
METHODS: We tested 5 human cadaveric thoracic spine segments, spanning T-T6, or T7-T12, in an 8-degree-of-freedom servo-hydraulic load frame, monitoring motion of each vertebra with an optical motion tr

BACKGROUND: The incidence of spine surgery in elderly patients is increasing. Geriatric spine surgery has 3 main concerns: osteoporosis, continuing degeneration and more deformity, and comorbidities. Measures taken regarding these concerns would improve results, and elderly patients will experience much more benefit from surgery. This study reviewed the most recent literature to improve outcomes of geriatric spine surgery.
METHODS: A literature search of the last 10 years was done.
RESULTS: Outcomes of spine surgery using decompressive techniques only are similar to outcomes in younger patie

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective study of a new classification and surgical approach of cervical dumbbell tumors.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate PUTH classification.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: The high recurrence rate and postoperative deformity are unsolved problems. Asazuma's landmark classification could not cover all cases and could not provide clear suggestion for the surgical approach. The ideal classification should be comprehensive, easily understood and of practical value.
METHODS: PUTH classification for cervical dumbbell tumors includes 7 categories (types 1-7) and 2 foraminal modifiers. P

INTRODUCTION: Pathological forward trunk flexion is a disabling and drug-refractory motor complication of Parkinson's disease (PD) leading to imbalance, pain, and fall-related injuries. Since it might be reversible, early and multidisciplinary management is emphasised. The primary aim was to compare the effects of a four-week trunk-specific rehabilitation program on the severity of the forward trunk flexion. The secondary aim was to compare the training effects on the motor impairments, dynamic and static balance, pain, falls, and quality of life.
METHODS: 37 patients with PD (H&Y ≤ 4) and fo

Clinical assessment of idiopathic scoliosis (IS) patients primarily relies on static imaging techniques. Dynamic digital human (DDH) can provide comprehensive spatio-temporal information for dynamic assessment of the scoliotic spine in IS patients comparing with static imaging techniques, such as X-ray for general assessment and computed tomography (CT) for surgical planning. The lumbar vertebrae exhibit greater morphological variability than the thoracic region when subjected to different postures and mechanical loads, making them particularly important for dynamic assessment. Therefore, a pe

In recent years, with the in-depth research on spinal tuberculosis, posterior surgery alone has been praised highly by more and more surgeons due to the better correction of kyphosis, better maintenance of spinal physiological curvature, smaller surgical trauma and fewer surgical complications. However, there is currently lack of relevant reports about the efficacy of posterior surgery alone in the treatment of tuberculosis in the T4-6 segments. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical study efficacy and feasibility of one-stage posterior-only surgical treatment for thoracic spinal tuberculos

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Accurate anatomical inputs for biomechanical models are necessary for valid estimates of internal loading. The magnitude of the moment arm of the lumbar erector muscle group is known to vary as a function of such variables as gender. Anatomical evidence indicates that the moment arms decrease during torso flexion. However, moment arm estimates in biomechanical models that account for individual variability have been derived from imaging studies from supine postures.
PURPOSE: Quantify the sagittal plane moment arms of the lumbar erector muscle group as a function of torso f
