The physical and chemical properties of two colloids labelled with 99mTc used for lymphoscintigraphic investigations for some time are reviewed. The advantages of human albumin nanocolloids over sulphated microcolloids are described and discussed. These mainly consist of more rapid, larger-sale endolymphatic transport.

The use of hypochlorite to prepare biological samples, containing incorporated radiolabeled molecules, for liquid scintillation counting was investigated. Hypochlorite both solubilized and decolorized a variety of animal tissues, but fat aggregates, cartilagenous tissue, and plant material resisted digestion. Although hypochlorite induced chemiluminescence, addition of acidified stannous chloride to the counting cocktail alleviated the spurious counts. Mixed anion compounds in the Fm3̅m vacancy ordered perovskite structure were synthesized and characterized experimentally and computationally with a focus on compounds where A = Cs+. Pure anion Cs2SnX6 compounds were formed with X = Cl, Br, and I using a room temperature solution phase method. Mixed anion compounds were formed as solid solutions of Cs2SnCl6 and Cs2SnBr6 and a second series from Cs2SnBr6 and Cs2SnI6. Two benzaldehyde derivatives, flavoglaucin (1) and isotetrahydro-auroglaucin (2), were isolated from the marine fungus Eurotium sp. SF-5989 through bioassay- and 1H NMR-guided investigation. The polymeric structure of the title compound, [Sn(CH(3))(3)(C(8)H(7)O(2))](n), is composed of zigzag chains in which the tin(IV) atoms, coordinated by three methyl groups, are bridged by toluene-2-carboxyl-ate ligands via their O atoms. A slightly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal SnC(3)O(2) coordination geometry arises for the metal, with the O atoms in the axial sites. Weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the packing.

The title compound, [Sn(C(6)H(5))(3)(C(17)H(25)O(3)S)](n), comprises two symmetry-independent five-coordinated triphenyl-tin mol-ecules which are linked by carboxyl-ate bridges into a polymeric chain. The Sn(IV) atom is in a distorted trans-C(3)SnO(2) trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The presence of two bulky tert-butyl groups on the benzene ring prevents any hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving the hydroxyl substituents.

The six coordinate Sn(IV) atom adopts a distorted octa-hedral geometry. π-π inter-actions between adjacent aromatic rings [interplanar distance 3.483 (5) Å] seem to be effective in the stabilization of the crystal packing.

Oesophagus scintigraphy with 99mTc was used to evaluate oesophageal motility in 40 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Abnormal oesophageal function was found in one third of the patients, although none reported oesophageal symptoms. The patients with abnormal oesophageal motility had a high frequency of abnormal autonomic nerve function tests compared with controls.

Rapid dynamic sequential scintigraphy of the abdomen with 99mTc-tin-colloid and 99mTc-HIDA has been used to evaluate two patients with portal hypertension. 99mTc-tin-colloid was useful for visualisation of diliated vessels in the abdomen. Radionuclide hepatobiliary imaging was useful in such cases in evaluation of the hepatobiliary system.

The selenium adducts of germa- and stanna-closo-dodecaborate can coordinate at platinum via the selenium atom and result in the products [Pt(dppp)(Se-TB(11)H(11))(2)](2-) (T = Ge, Sn) (dppp = 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane). The monomeric tin compound [Pt(dppp)(Se-SnB(11)H(11))(2)](2-) is converted to a dimeric complex [Pt(2)(dppp)(2)(μ(2),μ'(2)-η(2)-Se(2)SnB(11)H(11))]. The new compounds were characterized by NMR spectroscopy in solution ((1)H, (11)B, (13)C, (31)P, (77)Se, (119)Sn, (195)Pt), elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The influence of pH on the propylation with sodium tetra(n-propyl)borate of butyl- and phenyltins as well as for trimethyl- and triethyllead was investigated.
