Low density neutrophils (LDNs) are described in a number of inflammatory conditions, cancers and infections and associated with immunopathology, and a mechanistic role in disease. The role of LDNs at homeostasis in healthy individuals has not been investigated. We have developed an isolation protocol that generates high purity LDNs from healthy donors. Healthy LDNs were identical to healthy normal density neutrophils (NDNs), aside from reduced neutrophil extracellular trap formation. Calpain, a calcium-activated cysteine protease, is involved in modulating a variety of cell activities such as shape change, mobility, and apoptosis. The population of B lymphocytes was assessed in the blood of 16 patients with agammaglobulinemia using immunofluorescence and EAC1423 reactivity as B-cell markers. Lymphocytes were fractionated on gradients of bovine serum albumin which are capable of separating lymphocytes into B-cell-rich and T-cell-rich populations. There was complete absence of B lymphocytes in the majority of patients with X-linked agammaglobulinemia. Normal or increased numbers of B lymphocytes were found in all patients with common variable agammaglobulinemia.

A particles with the diameter of 70 to 80 nm were isolated from the cytoplasm of HEp-2, HeLa, and AO cells producing oncornavirus of Mason-Pfizer-like type. Infectious ribonucleic acids (IRNA) of Venezuelan equine encephalitis and Eastern equine encephalitis viruses were observed to form noninfectious complexes with a basic polyamino acid, poly-l-lysine. We have developed a method of induction of airway eosinophilia and neutrophilia in guinea pigs by intravenous injection of various types of Sephadex beads. In the first series of experiments, we have shown that G-50 Sephadex beads (Superfine, 24 mg/kg in conscious animals) induced a large accumulation of inflammatory cells in alveolar walls.
