Pathologic Prognostic Factors in Endometrial Carcinoma (Other Than Tumor Type and Grade).

Although endometrial carcinoma (EC) is generally considered to have a good prognosis, over 20% of women with EC die of their disease, with a projected increase in both incidence and mortality over the next few decades. The aim of accurate prognostication is to ensure that patients receive optimal treatment and are neither overtreated nor undertreated, thereby improving patient outcomes overall. Patients with EC can be categorized into prognostic risk groups based on clinicopathologic findings. Other than tumor type and grade, groupings and recommended management algorithms may take into accoun

Novelty in Management of Traumatic Posterior Atlantoaxial Subluxation without Associated Fractures; A Case Report : Innovative Treatment for Atlantoaxial Subluxation.

BACKGROUND: Background: Trauma is the main reason for Atlantoaxial subluxation in adults. The subluxation without fractures is extremely rare. Also, posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without odontoid fracture is extraordinarily uncommon and regularly causes deadly spinal cord injury. Based on the literature, there are few reports of approximately stressful posterior atlantoaxial dislocation, with incomplete quadriplegia related to a spinal cord injury. CASE PRESENTATION: Case Presentation: This report describes a 23-year-old Iranian man who was involved in a motor-to-barrier accident. He was

Epigenetic silencing of lncRNA MORT in 16 TCGA cancer types.

We have previously described a hominid-specific long non-coding RNA, MORT (also known as ZNF667-AS1, Gene ID: 100128252), which is expressed in all normal cell types, but epigenetically silenced during cancer-associated immortalization of human mammary epithelial cells.  Initial analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) showed that 15 of 17 cancer types, which represent the 10 most common cancers in women and men, display DNA methylation associated MORT silencing in a large fraction of their tumors.  In this study we analyzed MORT expression and DNA methylation state in the remaining 16 TCGA

Anatomic pathways of peripancreatic fluid draining to mediastinum in recurrent acute pancreatitis: visible human project and CT study.

BACKGROUND: In past reports, researchers have seldom attached importance to achievements in transforming digital anatomy to radiological diagnosis. However, investigators have been able to illustrate communication relationships in the retroperitoneal space by drawing potential routes in computerized tomography (CT) images or a virtual anatomical atlas. We established a new imaging anatomy research method for comparisons of the communication relationships of the retroperitoneal space in combination with the Visible Human Project and CT images. Specifically, the anatomic pathways of peripancreat

Craniovertebral junction database analysis: incidence, classification, presentation, and treatment algorithms.

INTRODUCTION: The initial treatment of bony lesions at the craniocervical junction consisted of posterior decompression with enlargement of the foramen and removal of the posterior arch of the atlas and axis vertebra. This was regardless of the site of compression. Needless to say, the results were poor when an irreducible ventral lesion at the craniocervical junction caused compression of the cervicomedullary area. It was predictable that an adverse outcome would occur in approximately 35-40% of patients treated with dorsal decompression with a fixed anterior abnormality at the craniovertebra

Differential segmental growth of the vertebral column of the rat (Rattus norvegicus).

Despite the pervasive occurrence of segmental morphologies in the animal kingdom, the study of segmental growth is almost entirely lacking, but may have significant implications for understanding the development of these organisms. We investigate the segmental and regional growth of the entire vertebral column of the rat (Rattus norvegicus) by fitting a Gompertz curve to length and age data for each vertebra and each vertebral region. Regional lengths are calculated by summing constituent vertebral lengths and intervertebral space lengths for cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and caudal regi

Congenital spine deformities: a new screening indication for blunt cerebrovascular injuries after cervical trauma?

Blunt cerebrovascular injuries (BCVI) carry significant morbidity if not diagnosed and treated early. A high index of clinical suspicion is needed to recognize the injury patterns associated with this condition and to order the requisite imaging studies needed to diagnose it accurately. We report of BCVI associated with a congenital cervical spine malformation after blunt trauma. We recommend inclusion of cervical spine malformations to the current Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma screening criteria for BCVI and explain our rationale for the same.

Craniovertebral junction lesions: our experience with the transoral surgical approach.

The aim of this study is to review our experience with the transoral surgical management of anterior craniovertebral junction (CVJ) lesions with particular attention to the decision making and to the indication for a consecutive stabilization. During 10 years (1998-2007), 52 consecutive patients presenting exclusively fixed anterior compression at the cervicomedullary junction underwent transoral surgery. Mean age was 55.85 years (range 17-75 years). Encountered lesions were: malformation (32 cases), rheumatoid arthritis (11 cases), tumor (5 cases) or trauma (4 cases). A total of 79% of patien

Bone tumors at the cranio-cervical junction. Surgical management and results from a series of 41 cases.

BACKGROUND: Bone tumors located at the cranio-cervical junction (CCJ)are rare. Tumoral involvement of the neighbouring structures including bone, nerves and vertebral artery and the dynamic aspects of the bone structures raise technical difficulties in the surgical approach. The surgical management includes tumoral resection and stabilization of the CCJ. METHODS: Forty-one patients presenting a bone tumor (26 benign and 15 malignant tumors), excluding chordomas, located at the CCJ (including lower third of the clivus, C1 and C2) were observed over 20 years from 1981 to 2001. SLC16A3 (MCT4) expression in tumor immunity and Metabolism: Insights from pan-cancer analysis.

BACKGROUND: SLC16A3, a highly expressed H + -coupled symporter, facilitates lactate transport via monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs), contributing to acidosis. Although SLC16A3 has been implicated in tumor development, its role in tumor immunity remains unclear. METHODS: A pan-cancer analysis was conducted using datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas, Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia, and Genotype-Tissue Expression projects. SLC16A3 expression patterns and associations with tumor progression, prognosis, immune checkpoints, and immune neoantigens were evaluated across 30 cancer types. Immune infi
