The association of the levels of alpha-fetoprotein and chorionic gonadotropin with congenital developmental defects and chromosomal abnormalities of fetus was studied. The correlation of elevated level of alpha-fetoprotein with defects of neuraxis, kidney and abdominal wall of fetus was shown. These data are used for screening of women with a high risk for Down's syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities.

Based on their experience and on a review of the literature, the authors study the surgical aspects of the undescended testis. A precise definition excluding the retractile testis is essential. Although the understanding of the pathogenesis remained incomplete, the present data give support to an early orchidopexy performed by a specialized surgeon following the failure of a human chorionic gonadotropin test.

We present a novel approach combining hysteroscopic flushing and laparoscopic milking for tubal ectopic pregnancy (EP) removal while preserving fallopian tubes. Postoperative beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) suspected remnant EP, necessitating methotrexate. Three-month follow-up confirmed bilateral tubal patency. This technique offers a tube-preserving treatment for EP; however, β-hCG monitoring is crucial.

Current management of cesarean scar pregnancy is conservative and consists of medical treatment with methotrexate (MTX). We present a report on a woman with this type of pregnancy who had continuous vaginal bleeding and persistent serum levels of beta human chorionic gonadotropin after undergoing curettage and MTX. Eventually, the remaining ectopic gestational tissue was removed by operative hysteroscopy.

There are various causes of hyperthyroidism in pregnancy such as Graves' disease and gestational thyrotoxicosis. The thyroid stimulation results from the excessive levels of circulating human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) produced by the trophoblastic tissue in both hydatidiform moles and choriocarcinoma. We present a pregnant patient with hydatidiform mole who presented with hyperthyroidism that resolved after evacuation of the mole.

An extremely rare case of partial hydatidiform mole located in the right Fallopian tube was diagnosed by ultrasonography and computed tomography. The lesion was excised, and the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) level in early morning urine fell below 1,000 IU/ml on postoperative day 11, and the serum HCG-beta level normalized on postoperative day 46.

An invasive mole in an ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed in the 16th week post amenorrhoea by transvaginal colour flow mapping. Colour flow mapping was the only noninvasive method used to verify the diagnosis. In this case the serum level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) was very low (0.196 IU/ml) and subjective symptoms and uterine bleeding were absent.

The first-trimester obstetric patient who is experiencing pain or bleeding may have a normal intrauterine pregnancy, a threatened miscarriage, an ectopic pregnancy, a blighted ovum or trophoblastic disease. Correlation of clinical findings, quantitative human chorionic gonadotropin levels and diagnostic ultrasound findings can maximize the efficiency of the work-up, provide a definitive prognosis and identify early ectopic pregnancy.

Eighty cycles induced by human menopausal gonadotropins in 45 women were studied with serial ultrasound examinations.
