INTRODUCTION: Some studies suggest that use of the injectable contraceptive depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) may increase susceptibility to HIV infection. We aim to determine the influence that such an association could have had on the HIV epidemic in South Africa.
METHODS: We simulate the heterosexual adult HIV epidemic in South Africa using a compartmental model stratified by age, behavioural risk group, sex, male circumcision status and contraceptive use. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the incidence and predictors of HIV acquisition from outside partners in serodiscordant couples.
METHODS: Demographic, behavioral, and clinical exposures were measured quarterly in a cohort of serodiscordant cohabiting couples in Zambia from 1995 to 2012 (n = 3049). Genetic analysis classified incident infections as those acquired from the study partner (linked) or acquired from an outside partner (unlinked). Factors associated with time to unlinked HIV infection were evaluated using multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression stratified by sex.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Antiretroviral treatment (ART) can dramatically reduce the risk of HIV transmission, but the feasibility of scaling up HIV testing, linkage and treatment to very high population levels, and its impact on population HIV incidence, were unknown. Infectious conditions of the infantile genitals are a diagnostic challenge. One of the rare differential diagnoses is lymphocytoma cutis benigna. We report a case of borrelial lymphocytoma of the glans penis in a 9 year old boy. A clinical trial was performed to compare the effects of intramuscular dihydrocodeine with caudal bupivacaine on postoperative pain and recovery in 181 children who had undergone either circumcision, inguinal herniotomy or orchidopexy performed under general anaesthesia. Linear analogues were used in assess level of consciousness and apparent pain. Recovery of consciousness was slower after caudal analgesia. For 90 minutes following circumcision there was significantly less pain and caudal analgesia, but better pain relief could not be demonstrated following inguinal herniotomy and orchidopexy

After a tentative beginning, the two-stage hypospadias repair described by Cloutier was progressively modified and in our hands proved applicable to a wide range of hypospadias. Results improved with experience. The modified procedure has a low complication rate and has given a normal appearing circumcised penis with a spiral urinary stream through a vertically oriented glandular meatus (Fig 5), and erections are normal. Because of the long-term importance to the patient, the normal appearance is emphasized.

INTRODUCTION: The Nesbit procedure is the most common surgical technique to correct congenital or acquired penile curvature.
