Burden of mood symptoms and disorders in implantable cardioverter defibrillator patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 39 954 patients.

AIMS: Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) prevent sudden cardiac death. Anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are underappreciated symptoms. We aimed to systematically synthesize prevalence estimates of mood disorders and symptom severities, pre- and post-ICD insertions. Comparisons were made with control groups, as well as within ICD patients by indication (primary vs. secondary), sex, shock status, and over time. METHODS: Databases (Medline, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Embase) were searched without limits from inception to 31 August 2022; 4661 articles were ide

Examining Cybersexism in Online Gaming Communities: A Scoping Review.

Cybersexism in the context of online gaming communities, as epitomized by the Gamergate incident back in 2014, has been an issue for a while for gamer women, yet it has not received proper attention. In this scoping review, we have aimed to assess its main characteristics, its consequences for gamer women, its triggers and predictors, and related prevention and mitigation policies provided by the existing research. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines were applied to the design of the scoping review. Empirical studie

A systematic review and meta-analysis of thigmotactic behaviour in the open field test in rodent models associated with persistent pain.

Thigmotaxis is an innate predator avoidance behaviour of rodents. To gain insight into how injury and disease models, and analgesic drug treatments affect thigmotaxis, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies that assessed thigmotaxis in the open field test. Systematic searches were conducted of 3 databases in October 2020, March and August 2022. Study design characteristics and experimental data were extracted and analysed using a random-effects meta-analysis. We also assessed the correlation between thigmotaxis and stimulus-evoked limb withdrawal. This review included th

Frontier and hotspot evolution in Brugada syndrome: A bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2022.

BACKGROUND: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a genetic disorder characterized by a typical electrocardiogram pattern and predisposition to arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Despite our considerably evolved understanding of BrS, no bibliometrics have been performed in this research field. We aimed to analyze and visualize the characteristics of the scientific outputs, topical evolutions, and research trends of BrS over the past 2 decades using bibliometric analysis. METHODS: The literature associated with BrS was retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collec

Landscape analysis of m6A modification regulators related biological functions and immune characteristics in myasthenia gravis.

BACKGROUND: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification has been recognized to play fundamental roles in the development of autoimmune diseases. However, the implication of m6A modification in myasthenia gravis (MG) remains largely unknown. Thus, we aimed to systematically explore the potential functions and related immune characteristics of m6A regulators in MG. METHODS: The GSE85452 dataset with MG and healthy samples was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. m6A modification regulators were manually curated. The targets of m6A regulators were obtained from m6A2Target database.

Use of the Vitiligo Extent Score: a protocol for a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition with no cure. Clinical assessment and treatment evaluation relies heavily on clinometry tools and expert knowledge. The Vitiligo Extent Score has been proposed as one of the most reliable and easy-to-use clinometry tools for vitiligo. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We proposed a scoping review to identify all the available evidence on the clinical research availability around the Vitiligo Extent Score. The following databases will be searched: MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, Open Grey, Lens and Directory of Open Access Journals. In addition, the approach pr

Adverse Events and Complications Associated With Vagal Nerve Stimulation: An Analysis of the Manufacturer And User Facility Device Experience Database.

OBJECTIVE: Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) can have devastating consequences for patients and families. Vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) is used as a surgical adjunct for treating DRE not amenable to surgical resection. Although VNS is generally safe, it has its inherent complications. With the increasing number of implantations, adequate patient education with discussion of possible complications forms a critical aspect of informed consent and patient counseling. There is a lack of large-scale reviews of device malfunction, patient complaints, and surgically related complications available to date

Middle meningeal artery embolization and pediatric chronic subdural hematoma: a systematic review of the literature.

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a disease commonly found in the elderly and not a typical finding in pediatric population. History of shunt surgery, child abuse, and blood disorder are some of the common causes of pediatric CSDH (pCSDH). There is growing evidence about the role of middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) to manage CSDH in the elderly population with a high risk of rebleeding. However, the evidence in the pediatric population is still sparse. A systematic literature search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science database from January, 2023, to March, 2023. Se

Association between allergic rhinitis and hypertension risk: A bidirectional 2-sample mendelian randomization study.

Previous studies have suggested a potential association between allergic rhinitis (AR) and hypertension, but the genetic basis remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to explore the genetic correlation and potential causal association between AR and hypertension. Using a large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) public database, we conducted meticulous screening to acquire the most up-to-date GWAS data on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) relevant to AR and hypertension, with a significance threshold of P < 5 × 10-8. Then, we investigated the causal association between AR and hype
